It has been two weeks now since I had lower jaw surgery and

genioplasty. At first my whole lower face was numb, but it has been

slowly coming back every day. I can now feel touch and temperature

differences on most of my lower face, but there is one large strip

on the left side that is still completely, 100% dead. I was just

wondering why the feeling there hasn't been coming back like the

rest of my face? I'm hoping it won't be that way forever. How long

does it usually take for the feeling to completely return?

I appreciate any help I can get!

Thanks,

Lea

Hi Lea,

It's way too early to worry. It takes awhile, different for everyone.

Most of the major numbness will eventually go down, but there's

residual numbness that can take much longer to subside. In the

beginning you can often measure it in terms of days, then weeks, then

it becomes more subtle and measureable in months, even years.

If you're still seeing your surgeon post-op, you might ask him/her if

the characteristics you've described are typical for his patients.

Failing that, you just gotta wait it out. You're in good company here!
