Guest guest
Hilary, I know exactly how you are feeling, I felt like a baby too and worse. I am now 6 weeks post-surgery for upper/lower/chin and it was and still is a long recovery for me. Everyone seems to be at different stages even though we've been operated on at the same time. I'm a slow healer and have a very low tolerance for pain. I'm still struggling with opening my mouth wider. Anyway, I had a breakfast shake every morning and I'm still having them: carnation instant breakfast (your choice); pudding (your choice I used chocolate, vanilla or butterscotch but you could also use yogurt); ice cream (your choice) and milk (I used whole for the fat and I usually drink 1%) and add a little instant coffee. This tastes delicious and isn't sweet. I tried making this with boost, it wasn't as good but it was ok. I used my blender for soup, it was ok and not so sweet. It was awhile before I was eating spegetti, about 4 weeks and I cut it up so small and it was oh so messy but it did taste good. Something else to try when you get a little further along, bake a potato, slice it up, put it in the oven with milk, cheese, onion power if you like the taste, a little bullion and a dab of butter. Bake it in the oven like you would scallop potatoes. I blended it but you could just mush it up when you get further along. I used one of those coated baby spoons to get it in my mouth. I am a full-time mother so my work was here at home. My husband took time off the first week and then juggled for another two, he works from home and travels. It was tough as I was not in good shape for longer than we expected...don't be hard on yourself, it's tougher for some of us than others. I'm numb and that drives me crazy and of course the swelling is still there but I'm doing much better. For me it's lots of ups and downs and baby steps. Keep in touch and feel free to e-mail.
