Guest guest
Hey everyone, Just wanted to turn you on to a really cool tool I just started using (besides my pouch!!!). It's a program you download for free from this website http://www.weightcommander.com/dot.html It's called Weight Commander and you get to try it free for 5 days, then if you like it, it's only $9.95. It is AWESOME...... It's helping me get BACK ON TRACK. I had surgery Dec. 3rd and was told I couldn't exercise for 4 to 6 weeks. I think I used that as an excuse!!! I got REALLY LAZY, mixed liquids and solids, slacked off on my exercise, you know the old story all you postops that are 1 or 2 years out (I'm 2 years out). Anyway, I saw my WLS surgeon Dr. Bock Feb. 11 for my two year followup. I had gained 24 lb. since May of 2002, the last time I saw him. I knew he would have some Wise and Wonderful Words for me, and he sure did: " Use the tool. " Profound, yes???? He made sure I had a copy of a handout " Keys to Success " that he gives out to all his patients now: http://www.sabariatric.com/keys_to_success1.htm And all by myself, I got an idea. I told him (and you are all my witnesses :-) that I would do a " 30 DAY B0CK CHALLENGE " , following the rules laid out in the " Keys to Success " handout, and that I would e-mail him and report on how I did at the end of the 30 days. 30 DAY BOCK CHALLENGE: 1. Three meals a day consisting primarily of SOLID PROTEIN (chicken, fish). I call this type of food " pouch stickers " ... ;-) 2. NO SNACKING, NIBBLING, OR MUNCHING BETWEEN MEALS. 3. NO GRAZING (yup, just driving home Rule #2) 4. NO LIQUIDS for at least TWO HOURS after each meal. 5. EXERCISE at least 5 days/week, at least 45 min. (vigorous aerobic exercise). 6. LOTS of WATER, starting 2 hrs. after each meal, and up to 15 min. before the next meal, including a " WATER LOAD " 15 min. before I eat. Let me tell you, when I looked at that list, I didn't hold out much hope that I could do it, but I decided to try it. Dr. Bock encouraged me at the end of my checkup, saying " I know you can do it! " I am the WORLD'S WORST SNACKER, and I have been drinking " a little " with my meals for the last year (if not longer). Snacking, grazing, combining liquids with solids....it's no wonder I started regaining weight. Besides not exercising, I was washing everything right through my pouch. So it's DAY THREE and I am HAPPY and AMAZED to report that I am DOING IT!!!!!! I've lost almost 6 lb. in the last three days, which is wonderful (yeah, yeah...I know it's water weight). And JUST LIKE THE DOC SAID, I DON'T GET HUNGRY!!!!! My goal is to lose 50 lb. over the next six months and get to my " secret goal " of 158. I haven't weighed 158 since 1976, the year I got married. So hey Gang, wish me luck. And check out Weight Commander, it is just TOO COOL....a graph shows your daily progress, there's a built- in diary, exercise tracker, and more bells and whistles than I could list. The guy who created it told me it started out as an Excel spreadsheet to help his best friend lose weight. One more cool website for you, where I found out about Weight Commander. For all of you WW kids who are into " points " , you'll love this one: http://www.dottisweightlosszone.com/restaurants.html Hope everyone has a WONDERFUL Valentine's weekend - DON'T treat yourself with CHOCOLATE, treat yourself to a GREAT MOVIE or something else that floats your boat..... Hang in there!! mew ;-p Ellen Wade 5'8 " , 55 yo, goal wt. = 160 lb. (...actually 158!!)
