Guest guest
>>> The only reason you should see your surgeon after the first year is to add money to his pocket and stats to any research he might be doing. I am all in favor of helping with the research but he can get those stats from support groups.<<< Alternately, you can have your PCP fax your annual or semi-annual weight/lab reports -- a copy to your surgeon if s/he's just keeping " track " that should be fine and not cost you and your insurance the 2x cost of seeing 2 doctors for the same reason. My surgeon doesn't follow anyone beyond the first year so I was pushed rather harshly (and unaware) into the hands of my (thank goodness) willing to learn, order tests and labs PCP abruptly -- we're dealing with it now -- I had always asked for a copy of my labs but when I was " shoved out the door " I asked for a copy of every single page in my chart from my surgeon to pass on to my PCP and kept a copy for myself too... that was like pulling teeth but what the heck... at least someone who will be providing long term care has all the details and so do I. A couple of months ago when I had my scope... in seeing the scope doctor BEFORE we did anything I made it clear I wanted a FULL copy mailed to me and a FULL copy to my PCP... NO PROBLEM... we both got it. I think it helps when we see new doctors... when I called for an appointment I didn't ask for an appointment but rather I told the front desk I wanted to come in and " interview " the scope doctor because I was deciding who I wanted to " hire " to do this test for me... that put a WHOLE DIFFERENT SPIN on everyone's attitude. Both the doctor and the office worked with me VERY well. I got what I paid for and in the end... doctors DO work for us... to feel they are working against us is very uncomfortable... they may have a long list of letters after their name but to my knowledge GOD isn't one of those acronyms given out to DR's. hugz, ~denise
