Guest guest
Am so happy today. 11 days post-op from Upper & Lower, and got my bands removed today. Have two training elastics on the side now which I must change every two days. The surgeon said " try to open " and I opened about 1 cm. I feel so free being able to breathe through my mouth, drink normally and eat soft foods. I went home, sat on my balcony in the 32 degrees Celsius heat (Cape Town summer!), and had a glass of wine and a few slices of cheese which I happily stuffed in. Can't chew obviously, but who cares right now! I feel almost normal. Surgeon says that I can eat anything that I feel I can handle…but have lost 5kgs and really want to keep it off…so am going to be careful about how much I eat and try and keep my stomach small. AND today is the first day without any medication at all – slight headache from blabbing away now, but is okay. I even look normal to those who don't know me – I look pretty swollen and terrible to myself, but that's only because I know I normally have quite a thin narrow face. Swelling is mainly now on the cheeks etc from the upper jaw surgery….lower jaw line is starting to define itself. Hang in there to all those who are struggling right now…gets better and better every day! Just keep reminding yourself why you started all this in the first place. Everything gets better with time. Am not saying I am `better' as such regarding complete health, but compared to this time last week, I feel fantastic! I am 'numb-ish' on my chin, nostrils and areas of my cheeks, but I can still feel there…which is good. Only place I am completely and utterly numb is my upper gums – which surgeon says will take a long while to get feeling back there. Best thing of all is that my boyfriend says I look beautiful, despite the swelling! Mmmm….nice…although I have broken out with some pimples…from the steroids, but am handling that. I was blessed with a good recovery, an amazingly talented surgeon, the kindest orthodontist, a supportive boyfriend, and someone else watching over me above. Its not over yet by any measure, but I feel like I have progressed so much today. Cheers Nadine
