Livia,

I am 54 and about to have upper and lower, etc. and am quite concerned about

recovery. Who is your surgeon?

Aug/Sept. Surgery folks

Hello Again Folks,

I was just wondering if there were any people out there that had

upper and lower surgery in Aug/Sept that would mind sharing where

they stand with their recovery. I really feel like I should be

doing a lot better. My doctor is wonderful and very encouraging and

I hate to keep complaining to him. My entire top jaw has been numb

since my surgery and I'm wondering how much longer. Also, I still

have lot's of pain in my ears and where the incisions were made. I

guess I'm getting a little down and need a lift. I did hear one

persons experience but I was hoping others would share as well.

Thanks, Livia

, I had lower advancement (no upper) at age 56, and had one of

the easiest recoveries on record, if that's at all reassuring to you.

When I first talked with my surgeon, I had a stack of questions, all

sent to him in advance. He went through a very detailed and complete

explanation of everything, then said, " But you're not asking me the

right question. "

" Ok, " said I. " What's the right question? "

" How old was the eldest patient I've ever done? "

" Ok, how old? "

" 62, " he said with a grin.

Don't worry about your age. The difficulty of your case, the strength

of your bones, your general condition and the ability and skills of

your surgeon and other caretakers are the crucial points.

Cammie,

You are a dear to answer so quickly. Who was your surgeon and where was

your work done?

I live in Boston and at the moment plan to have the surgery done in Santa

Barbara. The distance concerns me.

My surgeon was Dr. A. Zieman, of Mobile, Ala., and I

recommend him highly. I'm sure he would welcome you, and treat you

every bit as well as he treated me.(And the living is cheaper in

Alabama than in California, or particularly in Santa Barbara, I would

wager, although the housing market just now is high, courtesy of

Hurrican Ivan and the number of displaced folks looking for a roost.)

I do think, though, that you can surely find an able surgeon nearer

than either Mobile or Santa Barbara, unless you have some unusual and

extraordinary complications.

Livia,

I had my surgery on Aug. 11th...so i'm about 9 weeks out. I am

making a pretty good recovery i think. I still have a little bit of

numbness in my chin. It gets a tiny bit better every week. most of

my I have minimal residual swelling in my cheekbone area...due to

the plates. it's only really noticable to me. i my jaw is still a

bit stiff. i can eat most food without too much trouble. but the jaw

muscles just take time to stretch out. how long exactly has it been

since your surgery?? because i know i didn't really start feeing

better till about a month after my surgery. and that whole time i

honestly didnt' think i'd ever feel better! you'll start feelin

better soon...some people just take a little longer than others. but

keep postin on your progress.
