Guest guest
Vicki - I, too, can't wait to get back into the gym. Especially now that I've had my tummy tuck, but I still need to wait until I'm completely healed, but now that I am unable to go, I really want to.....it's strange that when we want to do something like this and are unable to do, we get that " urge " . But when I was " able " to attend, I always found an excuse to not go.........Now I do have an excuse, but want to go so badly, but at least I can still do my Walking tapes, but at my own speed and strength. On my way Just went to the gym..had to come back to get my shoes, but not before I weighed myself. 233 3/4, down half a pound! Yippeee! Isn't it weird how when we eat well and exercise, the weight starts to come off? Duh, where did I hear that before? One of the hardest things for lazy me is accepting just how much exercise I have to do and how strictly I have to watch my food to succeed. I picked up a Shape magazine, as I do every month, and read the success stories. Without fail, the people who maintain a normal weight will say they exercise, for exmple, running one hour 4x week plus weight lifting 3x week or another will say aerobics 5x a week, circuit training 5x week. Most everyone puts in at minimum an hour 5x week, but usually more. That used to seem unattainable for me. Just like when I saw what normal people ate and it looked like a diet to me. Now I go to the gym 6x week, 30-45 minutes cardio, 15 minutes stretch, 45 minutes weight lifting. Plus I walk my dogs for 1- 11/2 hrs (not that big a deal. Bassets are slow. I probably do 2-3 miles). And this is moderate compared to the normal sized people (and even many people on this board who are at goal)! They run instead of walk, do more weights. But I'll work up to it. So although I know it, I really have to digest it and absorb it: I can never go back to the way I used to live. And I don't mean just cutting out the bad habits. That's only half the equation. I have to consistently practice new habits for the rest of my life. Hopefully at some point the new behavior will become habit and I won't have to fight so hard to keep myself on track. Well, no more piddling. Got my shake, got my tennies, off to my workout with these tired old bones. Vicki A.
