Guest guest
Hi, I was told last week that the horrible itching, stinging, red bumps and lots of little pus pimples is cea. I guess I've lived in a cave these 60 years because I'd never heard of it. I've never had the smooth complexion shown in magazines but it never really mattered--until it started hurting to high heaven! The doctor took one look, said cea and wrote out the prescription for tetracycline and Metrogel. I'm use to taking meds for my hypertension and vitamins during the morning bathroom ritutal, just before breakfast and then straight out the door to work. There's not an hour BEFORE breakfastto take the tetracycline that doesn't find me still sound asleep! (Hour before meals or 2 to 3 hrs after, and one 30 minutes before going to bed) Managed to do the hour before lunch & dinner ok. First question--what happens if you take it with food? What are the long term effects of taking tetracycline? I've seen references that it's bad but guess I'm having a senior moment and can't figure out just why. My face was very tender so the first application of Metrogel burned. Second wasn't so bad but second day, my face was even more tender and red. It appeared the red was spreading beyond the original area and out as far as I had spread the Metrogel. I've continued to follow the doctors instructions for 7 days while I've read a zillion messages and articles on the net. The little white pimples have cleared up, the stinging comes and goes, but the red remains. Is it possible the Metrogel is causing more of my problem than it's helping? I'm looking for sympathy <G> and advice on what to do next? Marilyn

Guest guest
If the skin gets irritated of the metrogel, I would use only the oral antibiotics and when the skin calms down after a while on oral antibiotics u maybe could add the metrogel. When u are on oral antibiotics u should take probiotics. If you have troubling taking the meds in the morning, maybe u could take the meds 3 hours after breakfast. Some food " absorb " the meds and thats why you shouldn't take it with food. good luck //Kajsa. --- Marilyn skrev: > Hi, I was told last week that the horrible itching, > stinging, red bumps and > lots of little pus pimples is cea. What > are the long term effects of taking tetracycline? Hi Marilyn, I can relate to your scheduling problems with Tetracycline. I was on T. until 2 weeks ago. It is not easy, but it is doable. I didn't have enough time to take T. before breakfast, so I simply set the schedule on 10 o'clock - both a.m. and p.m. I typically have breakfast around 7:30 am, so by 10 my stomach was empty, and pretty much the same at night. You didn't say how many times a day you take it, but you just need to find a schedule that works for you. I was really persistent in keeping a 12 hr interval to keep the level of T. steady in my system. You need to take T. on an empty stomach because food inhibits its absoption (at least it is my understanding, also, stay away from dairy a few hours before you take it). Long term use increases your photosensitivity. There is more on the effects of Tetracycline at http://emedicine.com/derm/topic377.htm (scroll down to Medication).
