Long-term swelling

Hi Everyone,

I am about four and a half months removed from upper jaw surgery to correct

an open bite (the surgeon moved by upper jaw up 3mm). My recovery has

been relatively uneventful -- no numbness or altered sensation -- and both my

surgeon and my ortho are very excited about the way my bite looks.

The only problem is that I seem to be one of the unlucky ones whose swelling

refuses to go down. It will come and go -- some days (like today) my face is

much puffier than others, but I am definitely not back to normal (cheekbones

are still almost invisible at this point, and some days I have a little double

chin).

I did everything -- MLD therapy, Arnica, Bromelain, elevated head -- but after

a certain point the swelling simply plateaued, especially around my nose and

jowl area. My surgeon said it may take up to a year to go away, but I have to

admit I'm getting impatient and a little nervous that the swelling will never go

away completely.

Did anyone else out there experience this sort of long-term swelling? Any

additional suggestions for ways to combat it?

Thanks!

Meaghan
