I am wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them... I began

taking fish oils because they have worked wonders for my kiddos...

both with different " issues " ... I thought they would help my foggy-

headedness and ADHD-type symptoms...

Well, I have been taking them... for the first 3 days, I felt very

sad and melencholy... My husband asked me to stop taking them, as I

was so moody... I remembered when I first gave them to my daughter,

she cried a LOT, so I thought that once that period was over, I'd

even out and feel better...

I have been taking them for about 2 weeks, and about an hour or so

after taking them, I notice that I have no " pep " , and I really just

do not want to do anything... It takes me a couple of hours to

even " get going " ... even if I wake up in the morning in a great

mood... it seems like when I take them, I feel awful. Dreary,

tired... blah... So, I tried it again this morning, and it is

definitely the fish oils... So, I have not taken my nightly dose with

dinner and I feel fine...

My question is, could it be the BRAND and not the fish oils? I do not

think it is the soy in it, as I have eaten soy products with no

problem...

I did a search and can't find anything online to document fish oils

making people feel awful...

I haven't heard of depression being caused by any of the omegas, but

definitely you should consult your doctor. If I give them to my daughter too

late in

the evening, they may cause her to stay awake but that is because she

becomes too energetic, the opposite of what you are seeing. Carolyn

You may be allergic to the lemon or the soy, minimal as it is.

Aubrey what formula are you taking? The ProEFA has both Omega 3 as

well as Omega 6 from the GLA which is important for most of our

children but perhaps your body isn't responding well to the borage

seed oil (if you are taking ProEFA)

It's pretty hard to google anything and get zero results -but that is

what I found for what you are talking about -even when I searched

under the GLA vs the EPA or DHA. I can tell you for my ADHD

diagnosed son Dakota that the EPA is even more important then it is

for my apraxic son. If I were you I would stop whatever oil you are

taking and try a pure Omega 3 like ProEPA or coromega. The fish oils

appear to work with the body -my apraxic son Tanner tended to be

lethargic prior to fish oils -and they gave him energy and life (and

a voice) but the same exact fish oils calmed down my ADHD son

Dakota. So since you have ADHD too -you aren't just calm -but sad

and moody? There's always the exception to the rule -it's just

strange that not one other person relates to this and there is no

indication that this is a side effect anywhere you search in side

effects anywhere. Just another thought if you are already just

taking a pure omega 3 -have you tried taking the oils right before

you go to sleep? I typically wouldn't recommend that but if they

make you tired anyway then that would be a good thing.

As you may know now from various research -fish oils = less depression.

" Depression

People who do not get enough omega-3 fatty acids or do not maintain a healthy

balance of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids in their diet may be at an increased

risk for depression. The omega-3 fatty acids are important components of nerve

cell membranes. They help nerve cells communicate with each other, which is an

essential step in maintaining good mental health. In particular, DHA is involved

in a variety of nerve cell processes.

Levels of omega-3 fatty acids were found to be measurably low and the ratio of

omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids were particularly high in a clinical study of

patients hospitalized for depression. In a clinical study of individuals with

depression, those who ate a healthy diet consisting of fatty fish 2 - 3 times

per week for 5 years experienced a significant reduction in feelings of

depression and hostility. "

So your symptom is highly unusual...

One other question...since fish oils are a food supplement -do

you notice any changes when you eat fish -like a tuna sandwich etc.?

Hi ,

> Aubrey what formula are you taking? <

I went to my local healthfood store and got a brand that says it was

purified for no mercury, etc. It has:

EPA: 432 mg

DHA: 288 mg

total Omega-3s: 2400 mg

I take half the dose in the morning and the other half at night. It

has no lemon flavoring. The ingredients are: gelatine, glycerine,

water, tocopherol. Contains fish (anchovy, sardine) and soy.

I got several results for depression with Omega 3's, but it all

looked positive... That is whay I am not understanding why I am

feeling like that. My daughter's Apraxic symptoms improve greatly

while on Omega 3's. My other daughter does a lot better in school

while taking them. Neither of them seem affected negatively... That

is why I am confused. :)

Yeah, for a couple days, I felt very weepy at the drop of a hat...

and I figured it would be the way it was with my daughter. She was a

weepy mess for a couple days, then it was like the sunshine came out

for her... I just feel like I want to go to bed and sleep all day

when I take it...

I did take them last night before I went to sleep, and slept well.

No, I have eaten tuna, and have had nothing effect me... now, my dad

is allergic to shellfish, and I recently ate some clams and my eyes

swelled and I felt like my body had been hit by a truck... so, I am

assuming I am allergic to shell fish. I am wondering, if maybe, this

might have some sort of shell fish ingredients. I will write to the

company and ask...
