I am 5'8'' and only 145 lbs. I am going to have my surgery in early

December so does anyone have comments on how to gain weight fast or

on certain things I can eat while having my jaw bonded shut.

Thanks

I'm in the same boat as you - I'm 6'1 " and 160 and the last thing I

want to do is lose muscle that I've spent the last three years

busting my butt in the gym to make. I've talked to my trainer at

length about what I can do with my diet when my mouth is banded shut

and I think that you can get enough in you to keep weight loss to a

minimum.

Get plenty of protien and meal replacement shakes before surgery

(Keto shakes are awesome for protien and healthy fat, Optimum

Nutrition and Designer Whey Protien are great protien only shakes,

EAS makes some seriously high-calorie carb/protien meal replacement

shakes). Take a look online for these as they'll be much cheaper than

retail stores.

I think that until you can really eat solid food well, the shakes are

the way to go. You can control and maintain your

carb/fat/protien/calorie intake as well as get alot of

minerals/vitamins/amino acids to boot (most supplement shakes are

loaded).

Hope this helps!

Hi--

And remember wired shut doesn't mean you have to go with out...I am

thin and can't gain very well...so they were quite concerned about

me losing and I bought shakes ready to drink and do what I had to

while I really dislike the taste of shakes....so what do to?

BLEND EVERYTHING. Say for dinner, maybe I would have had chicken,

mashed potatoes and sauteed zuccini...so ok then, chicken cut up

small, add some turkey gravy and blend. one glass. then mashed

potatoes, add more milk, butter and water and blend and done....one

glass. same with zuccini, fry in some butter, remove, blend and

TASTY!!!!

I blended EVERYTHING I wanted, even chinese food and it was GREAT!

so lots of straws (and I recommend either grabbing slushy straws

(they are a little bigger) orget a sports bottle straw and cut it,

just be sure to get it really clean inside the crinkles...and life

can be tasty, nutrituus and healthy while you heal...and sure,

supplement the vitamins with high protein shakes if you like, but I

prob ate healthier and more then than ever in my life---so fear not,

but buy a good blender...then afterwards, you can celebrate with

frozen drinks with friends! ;) JO

I totally agree with everything that has been said before (Red Sox

losing) I am 5'9 " and weigh usually 130. I did put on 9 pounds

before surgery and it was HARD to gain that weight. (8th inning, no

outs, one man on base). I also put EVERYTHING into the blender. you

just have to figure out what to add to make it drinkable. water?

milk? broth? (4-3 Yanks winning Boo-hoo) It seems like a long

time ago now, thank goodness, but i remember blending chicken

parmasean. NO KIDDING, and it was tasty! Several staples were

blended soups, lots of protein shakes, yogurt with milk added,

applesauce with juice added, meatloaf, potatoes and beef broth in

the blender - very good. (runners on first and third, no one out,

GO SOX!!)
