Hey everyone -

I have been reading your posts and am hoping you are all doing well.

I am 8 weeks out from my upper/lower leforte III. I unnderwent many

of the same issues you guys have gone thru and are going thru. I

think this site is nice because you all can relate to all of the

feelings. I mean if you think about it even your surgeon (unless he

has had the surgery) really does not know how you truly feel.

At 8 weeks I have no splint or bands and eat with fork/spoon for

every meal. I put the blender away for good about 3 weeks ago and

eat allot now. I still am VERY skeptical to chew, I think you will

experience the same thing - I am afraid to chew. I eat pasta, cut up

chicken, turkey etc. I can eat at all restauraunts etc. So hang in

there things improve daily! I remind myself all the time of day one

and two with the syringe and the HUGE swelling.

As far as swelling and numbness, frankly I still have some of both at

8 weeks. Primarily the numbness is my lower lip and chin. Every day

I can " feel " a bit more. I no longer spill everything I drink and I

can shave with no problem. I guess I am using these tasks as

evidence that I have improved.

Not sure if you guys work out or exercise regularly, but I started

walking at day two post op. Last week, I was given the green light

to resume running. I think this was the largest step in being back

to myself. All in all, it has been ok after those first few days.

At this point I am starting to live the benefits of the surgery.

Sounds like you guys are doing good. If you are banded tightly and

need to breath a bit easier, I always stuck a small straw between my

teeth for short periods. This allowed some additional air to get

thru. I asked the Dr. and they said it was ok to do that a little.

Anyway, good luck. Heal quick. Normal feeling and solid food is

getting closer by the minute.
