Guest guest
, my understanding of the " wired " business is not the same as yours. Some surgeons indeed do still wire, meaning lacing the jaws together, using the surgical hooks and wires, their patients. (The elastics folks, on the other hand, are " banded. " And some are tightly banded, and some loosely.) From what I've heard it's a matter of the surgeon's preference, what happens in the OR and which procedure is being used. There's one procedure called a vertical osteotomy (I think) for advancement of the lower, which requires wiring for reasons I don't know. Some surgeons believe it causes less numbness than the BSSO. I was neither wired nor banded, and recommend that highly, if your surgeon thinks it appropriate.
