Yes, people have had lower advancement and genioplasty (that's the

chin sculpture) and have a) been happy with results and B) been

unhappy with results. Others have had only genio, and been happy or

not. Others have had advancement without genio (that's me) and been

happy, or not. In short, it's a very individual thing. A few have had

additional genioplasty later (with all the accompanying set of

surgical charges for anesthesia, OR, etc., etc.) and another few have

had their genioplasties modified surgically.

I have known those who went into surgery thinking they'd have genio,

but didn't. I have known those who left the decision up to the doc,

to make in the OR (and no, not all of them got genios).

You should know that genio is not usually covered by the insurance

companies, who most often rule it cosmetic. The jaw procedures most

often are, but you may have to fight for approval.

Most important, you should be sure your growth is complete, or you

could go through the surgery, have a growth spurt, and find you had

to do it all over again. There are ways the docs can test this, but

it is a VERY important point (particularly if you are a guy, who tend

to finish their growth later) to discuss thoroughly with your surgeon.

Talk with your doc A Lot, ask what you can expect, and why he wants

to do what he wants to do.

Good wishes to you. There's nothing wrong with being concerned about

what you want to do and why, so don't decide until you're clear in

your mind about how YOU want to handle this stuff.
