It sounds very much like your mom suffers from depression, which is common in MSA patients. As far as I know, there is no conclusive evidence of the causes of MSA. It is not hereditary. Some feel that it may be envoronmentally related, but there has not been enough research or evidence to prove this. Is you mom being treated for depression? Does she have a doctor who has a basic understanding of this disease and how to treat the symptoms. With the proper combination of medications, exercise, and diet, your mother could have a decent quality of life. My husband, Jeff has been diagnosed with MSA, and he is 37. At 57 your mom may be strong enough to fight this. Keep us posted on her progress and if you can, encourage your sister to join the group. We will keep you in our prayers.
