Guest guest
it's been my experience, too, that sooo many ppl are out of the loop regarding wls. most ppl that know i had surg are accepting, b/c, hey, it works. so hopefully my example will show that wls is not a fad... & regarding your " friend " that competition ca-ca is sounding pretty toxic. lori h. > I have people ask me all the time what my secret is, and how I have done so well. > When I explain that I had WLS, some want to know more and others give me a look like I am totally crazy. I also dont like to " preach " to others about the surgery, but I do tell them if they want to know more that I would definately sit and talk to them. > > My best friend has also struggled up and down most of her adult life with weight gain and losses. When she found out about my decision to have WLS, she actaully told people I wouldnt appreciate the weight loss and that I was taking the easy way out. Now talk about a blow to a friendship. She too was envious of how things were going to change, even though she is overweight, she always weighed less than I did and of course would get a little more attention than I would which is something that is important to her. Her comments were more for lack of education on the WLS process and jealousy. At first she began to gain wieght because she did not meet the criteria for WLS, I felt like I needed to tell her that this isnt for everyone and that their are major complications that could happen and educate her on the things that could possibly happen. Once she had the information, things seem to turn around for her. She is not someone who would elect surgery as an opition knowing all the risks > that go into it. She has since lost the weight that she purposedly gain and then some more in the pass year. She is feeling better about herself and understands now that I wasnt doing this to " look " better than she did, but was doing it to get healthy. She can have all the attention lol > > It is difficult to have everyone make a comment, and asking advice on how to diet. > My favorite answer is .. what works for me may not work for you but this is what I do.. > then explain a normal day of eating for myself. > Keep up the great work !! > Ruth > Open RNY > 10/29/02 > 386/186/165 > MA > Dr Bruce THayer
