Guest guest
From what I have read it seems like a long time before you get back to normal from this surgery. Is speech a problem afterwards and if so how long. Also how long before you can begin orthodontic treatment again?

Guest guest
It's not always a long time until you are back to somewhat normal. I had lower advancement on August 24th and feel fine now (have for some time). I still have some numbness, but nothing that prevents me from doing anything. I was back to work at 2 weeks post-op. Talking was a little difficult at first, but more from the rubberbands than from my jaw. I eat perfectly fine now, cheeseburgers, pizza (I still eat this with a fork though), and basically anything else I want, except the no-no braces food. Healing times are different for everyone, and also may depend on what you are having done. I started back with my ortho 7 weeks after my surgery, but this really depends on your ortho and surgeon. Some people are back to the ortho in 3 weeks. There are no guarantees that you will heal quickly, but I think the longer recovery times are really the exception rather than the rule.
