Guest guest
I'm set to get braces on within a month to correct my crossbite/openbite and I also currently have muscle-caused problems relating to facial pain. Has anyone worn splints to relieve this muscle pain? If so, was it overly effective or did you eventually get braces/surgery to permenately relieve the muscle discomfort? I don't know if I should try a splint first or just get the braces on to start correcting my bite. Thanks for your feedback. -nathan

Guest guest
Hi , I tried splint therapy for 3-4 years before giving up on that. It worked, somewhat. For it to be completely effective for me, I would have been at the dentist having my splint adjusted about every other week. And even then, I only wore my splint at night, and by late afternoon pretty much every day I had headaches and muscle tension in my face and neck. Since I'm only 25, the prospect of bi-weekly trips to the dentist, and pain nearly half of every day, sent me to find more permanent solutions! I had surgery 10 days ago to correct my open bite. That said, my surgeon's greatest worry going into surgery was still the stability of my jaw joint. My right TMJ has worn away significantly, so we can't be sure that just fixing my bite will fix the pain problems. So...keeping my fingers crossed! > > I'm set to get braces on within a month to correct my > crossbite/openbite and I also currently have muscle-caused problems > relating to facial pain.
