Guest guest
Hello there everyone! First I want to say thanks to everyone for all their wonderful posts that helped me prepare for the big day! Here I am, a week and a day later (surgery was 11.11.04) and I am so happy to be on " the other side! " I think reading the messages on this site really helped me prepare for what I would be dealing with. Docs wound up expanding my upper pallate and moving it forward almost half an inch, decreased lower jaw and moved it back slightly, reset jaws so that my midlines were centered and then genioplasty. Didn't know I needed the genioplasty until the doc did surgery on my models last Monday so that was a nice little surprise. And now here I am with only 4 days left to go in my tight bands! Woo hoo! Let's see-for all you out there getting ready to go in...here's what I have dealt with during my recovery...the pain is manageable with meds-I'm not going to lie, there are times that it has gotten me really frustrated or woken me up...ah yes, sleeping. That was an issue for the first 5 days or so- b/c you really have to sit up and who can sleep all that long in that position? My swelling is still siginificant but has decreased dramatically over the past week. It's really quite amazing, swelling considered, the changes you can see in my face already. My poor roommate stopped my yesterday(I'm recouping at mom and dad's!) and she couldn't stop staring at my nose-I guess moving your upper jaw forward that much would change the appearance of it. I'm quite pleased with what I see so far. The liquid diet is bearable-to all you that blenderize foods, I give you a lot of credit, but I just can't bring myself to do it. The docs said as long as I could get 3 Ensure/Boost/whatever down a day, I would be okay, and that's what I've been sticking with. They're really not that bad. I've noticed some serious weight loss though-couldn't tell you how much b/c for some reason, in house full of perpetual dieters, there doesn't seem to be a scale. The most irritating thing at this point is how scaly and broken out my chin is from the tape they used after the genioplasty. It stayed on until Wednesday, and now it looks like I have a rash all over my chin, which sucks b/c the rest of my skin is in pretty good shape right now. Any suggestions for dealing with that would be much appreciated-the docs said just to use a mild soap and water-but it's so dry and scaly, I feel like I should be using moisturizer or something. Anyway, thanks again for all the words of wisdom and great advice! It really helped me prepare and now I am well on the road to recovery!
