Guest guest
Hello, everyone! I'm wondering if anyone else has had these things happen: 1. Sometimes when I'm falling asleep (almost every night), I feel like my front teeth are pulsating. I'm assuming that it's my mouth relaxing and pulling on the bands; I'm hoping it's not pulling them out of place! I only had lower done, so I'm thinking it's not a nerve thing. It's similar to when you put your bands back on after brushing or eating; they pull tighter for a while. 2. Sometimes I wake myself up with a herky-jerky movement of my jaw that doesn't feel good. I've had jerky movements/spasms during the day, but it seems like at night I bite down suddenly or, like last night, I try to open my mouth wide but get restricted by the bands and some quick pain. I wake up telling myself, " No, you can't do that right now... " Could be clenching, which I am known to do... Is this something a muscle relaxant could help? Cammie? Was that you or that took something for that? Anyway, not really freaked out or anything; just curious if anyone has had these things happen. I see my OS on Monday and will ask about them. Guest guest
yeah...i've had some weird jaw sensations too. it's almost like a nerve twitching...but it's in my jaw...and like you said...it definitely tries to force your mouth open. a couple times these have heen kinda painful, but mostly just annoying. also...i get some strange popping feelings in my upper jaw where they split it...this is on the roof of my mouth..and it's mostly when i swallow and my tongue pushes against the roof of my mouth. > Hello, everyone! > > I'm wondering if anyone else has had these things happen: > > 1. Guest guest
Hi! None of that sounds extraordinary to me -- but do be sure you tell your doc. I think it's just your face putting itself back together. There are some drugs I have taken over the years for muscle spasms, and if it's serious enough to be keeping you awake, ask your surgeon whether they might help you. But I'm thinking that probably you'll do better with as few chemicals in your system as you can manage. I think Miz has taken a prescription, and I'm blanking on the name and would probably give you the wrong one if I tried to get it right, for clenching... I would doubt that your bands are putting things in the wrong places. I think you probably have a lot of altered stresses on your teeth, especially if you're clenching in a new position. Good wishes to you! Cammie > Hello, everyone! > > I'm wondering if anyone else has had these things happen: > > 1. Guest guest
I don't take it for clenching, but as I said in the last post, it's often prescribed for that. It's called amitryptyline (or elavil). I take it in a low dose before bed (10 mg) to help me get to sleep and stay asleep. A colleague at work is having trouble sleeping at night (her husband passed away five months ago) and her physician prescribed a higher dose of it for her, to help. > > Hello, everyone! > > > > I'm wondering if anyone else has had these things happen: > > > > 1. Guest guest
Hello- Cammie, you were right--I saw my OS today and asked my questions, and he said these were all typical healing sensations related to the muscles and the bands. He said that everything looked great and removed the " box " banding I had back near my molars. I'll be in " front triangle " bands until September 14th, and he said that at that appointment they'll give me the go-ahead to chew. I was hoping to be able to lose the bands when I start teaching in a week, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized I'd rather have things locked up firmly so nothing adverse happens during healing. Plus, the Hannibal Lector look might be an effective discipline technique. I've been practicing my sound effects. J/K, of course! Every day there's something...lots to learn, but I'm keeping my chin up and keeping my eyes on Dec/Jan when I'll no longer be in braces! I already told my husband I'm getting my teeth whitened. Might as well slap a fresh coat of paint on 'em, right? Take care, everyone...I'm starting teacher workshops this week but will still check in and help when I can. Thanks to everyone who has helped me. You've been wonderful... Carleen
