Guest guest
I have always had a hard time with munching at night while watching TV. I hit a " plateau " at 280 pounds. Then last summer I had the cable disconnected and I immediately started losing again and am now at 235. However, when football season started in September, my husband insisted on getting the cable turned back on. Gradually I've started watching again at night and guess what? I have been at 235 for 4-5 months now. Last night I went out to a girlfriend's house and then came back and, instead of turning on the tube, got straight into bed and read for an hour. Not only did I sleep much better, but I got up this morning and am a pound lighter. I'm convinced that once the body has lost a lot of weight, it doesn't take but a couple of hundred extra calories to stop the weight loss. I don't gain, I just don't lose. A couple hundred calories...a handful of chips, some peanuts or a small bowl of ice cream easily put me over that. Even a healthy snack can put me over the edge. I wasn't the only one who benefited from no TV. My kids and I read a lot together and played a lot of games. I am convinced this contributed to them both qualifying for the GATE (gifted and talented education) program at school. Now the kids watch their kids' shows downstairs and I watch the adult show upstairs. I can see the quality of their work, while still good, is not as stellar as it was before. My husband no longer goes to bed at a decent hour. He stays up to the wee hours and watches TV. He can't get up in the morning, so I get the kids ready for school, make their lunches and review their homework alone. He hasn't had breakfast with his family in months. The message is clear. One more addiction needs to be crossed off the board. Vicki A.
