Helen, i have a veneer on one of my front teeth that i have had on

there for about 20 years. it really is ready to be replaced and at

the time they put it on, they said it would only last 7-10 years.

(hmmmmmm???) anyway, my front tooth was going completely yellow

from a broken nose situation and the veneer was PERFECT. i will get

it replaced after my braces come off as well as doing a one shade

lighter bleaching. i agree with you, after all this, let's get the

look we really want if we can afford it!

Every single one of my dental experts recommends veneers. Nobody's

offering to pay for them -- and from what I hear, your estimates are

low.

I'm holding out until my poor old teeth fall even more apart and

maybe the insurance will help. (My front teeth are, from left

lateral incisor to right lateral: crown, composites holding things

together, same for the other central incisor, and a root-canalled

mostly-gone, composite packed, lateral incisor. Does that suggest

something???) Around here, I think it's more like $1,000 a pop. That

crown isn't old -- at least not by my standards, and I have no pain

nor obvious decay, so I'm holding out...

I'm sure my mouth would be more nearly beautiful with them, though.

But the rest of me isn't, and I need a kitchen and some trees

removed, so I'm allocating my resources, at the moment. (Need a

kitchen, as in haven't had anything but a fridge and freezer since

the hurricane, Sept. 16. Not a plug, not a lightbulb, not a

microwave, not a hotplate... Still tarp-covered holes in the roof.

For Thanksgiving we're having pnut butter and jelly. With Reddy Whip

on top. Which is more than sufficient for my big old bod.)

All that said, hey -- if you can do it comfortably, why not? You've

been through a bunch of stuff, so why not treat yourself and your

teeth to what your docs recommend, just going a small step farther?

I have no doubt that the visual and functional results will be

pleasing!
