Guest guest
Hi group, I wanted to ask a question to some of you who are more experienced with all the risks and benefits of jaw related procedures. I was forced to abandon the idea of jaw surgery because of tooth root resorption. My orthodontist demanded we should stop the treatment to save the front teeth and forget about the long surgery process. So I had to stop with whatever result I had up to that point. One arch is not completely matching but it's better than losing teeth. Now, my chin is weak and since I never got to complete the lower jaw asvancement, that will not be corrected. I talked to the surgeon and he said he could do just genio. However, I have been reading that it wont be natural if the jaw does not move as well plus it will cause tongue movement, maybe teeth movenent (not good since I dont have braces anymore to correct). Not to mention the numbness issue risk for something unnecessary at this point. I was wondering if a simple bone graft could replace genio? Any of you had any experience with just adding bone in the chin area (ither biological or synthetic) to avoid the osteotomy related with the genio? Thanks for all replies, I will ask these questions the surgeon but maybe others talked to their surgeons and can give some feedback.
