Guest guest
Dear Maxine, My advice to you is to get some INDIVIDUAL help and do it asap. Group support is an important part of the recovery process but it is rarely enough. Working out a long term plan for successful maintenance is very individual. What worked for someone else may not work for you and you have very little time right now for trial and erroor. I have a 2 yr. program running here in Philadephia (www.myselfdesign.com) where the experience you are describing is exactly what we practice for from the beginning of the surgical recovery process. By 18 months most patients have built a solid base of good habits and have lots of constructive strategies banked to help with temptation. You can do this retroactively but it will be rocky for a while. Find a well trained therapist who is experienced with eating and weight disorders and get your own long term plan hammered out now before you slip further back into your old habits. Many people have been where you are and have regrouped successfully. Others have let too much time elapse and have seen all their success evaporate. It's up to you. Good luck.
