Guest guest
Like most of you, I have had to tackle the problem of, " How do I exfoliate? " My skin can't tolerate buff puffs, gentle or not, nor masks; and other exfoliants, whether chemical in nature or containing granules, also irritate my skin. And yet I get that flaky unsightly layer of skin cells on my face that persists through face washings. What to do? This is what I do, and since I have not ever read of anyone else doing it, and as far as I know it has not been " dermatologist approved " , please BE CAREFUL IF YOU TRY THIS AT HOME! Not to sound sexist, but this suggestion is targeted towards female rosaceans. You men already seem to know how to do this (except for my former fiance, and that's a gruesome little story that belongs on another support board Once or twice a week, after washing my face, I smooth on a layer of Equate lotion for sensitive skin while my face is still wet (I keep this lotion in my fridge, where I keep most of my facial products.) I let it sit for a few minutes, and then I take a disposable razor, kept especially for this purpose, from my freezer. I VERY GENTLY shave my flaky areas, carefully rinse and pat my face, and apply my cold Vita-K cream or metrogel. This gets rid of my flakes, and doesn't irritate my skin! (Also, I've read that shaving can stimulate collagen production, which feeds into the theory of why men " traditionally " have younger looking skin than women of the same age.) I wash the razor thoroughly after each use, and pop it back into the freezer, freeing it to romp amongst the eternally frozen asparagus until its next thrilling encounter with my face. After five (5) uses, I toss it. I've been doing this for almost ten years with no cuts, abrasions, or irritation. But, as you guys know, what works for one may not work for another -- try it on a small patch of your face before you go whole hog. And, I cannot stress this enough, BE CAREFUL!
