Guest guest
Dear Angie, Have your pcp do the tests. A year is way too long to wait on some of the issues (particularly your b-12 levels). If you become deficient in b-12 and stay that way, you can cause permanent, irreversible neurological disorders which include memory loss, numbness in the extremities, etc. and you don't want to do that. Bloods should be run every 3 months the first year out and then every 6 months there after. If you have a good relationship with your primary care doc, I would say to let him do your follow-up. Here's the list of what you need tested: This list includes labs we have performed as gastric bypass patients * comprehensive metabolic profile (sodium, potassium, chloride, glucose,BUN, creatinine, calcium, total protein, albumin, total bilirubin, alkaline phosphatase, aspartate aminotransferase) * pre-albumin * lipid profile (cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides, chol/HDL ratio) * ALT (SPGT) * GGT * LDH * phosphorous - inorganic * uric acid * hemogram with platelets * B-12 & folate * iron, TIBC, % sat * vitamin A & D (25-hydroxy) * vitamin B-1 * thyroid panel (T3U, T4, FTI, TSH) * zinc * magnesium * ferritin * serum intact PTH DIAGNOSIS CODES: 579.3 post-surgical malabsorption 269.2 hypovitaminosis 244.9 hypothryoidism Good luck. I hope your doctors do the right thing and that you have great follow-up care. It is essential to your health. live each day like it's your last... love like you've never been hurt...
