Guest guest
Hi, everyone! Today marked three weeks since my upper/lower/genio surgery, and things are going swimmingly. I am wearing my elastics 19 out of 24 hours a day, and it's possible that by this weekend that I will be 12 hours on and 12 hours off with them. Much of the swelling has gone down, but I notice swelling around my cheekbones and lower jawline. I know that it will be a few more weeks before it's barely noticeable. When I'm not wearing my elastics, I am able to open my jaw wide enough to fit an adult toothbrush with the bristles facing the surface of my teeth. I'm looking forward to regaining a little more range of motion with it over the coming weeks. My chin and lower lip still have pins and needles, so I'm starting to regain some sensation. As far as my diet is concerned, I have been given the go ahead to eat soft foods such as oatmeal, yogurt, refried beans, fried eggs with runny yolks, tuna salad with no veggies, etc. I have really enjoyed this step up! I don't expect to be able to make any further additions to my diet for a while until at the very least three weeks from now. Today I had some suspension wires removed from my mouth, which made so much difference! They were thick wires implanted in my jaws at the gumline with a hook that hung right at the midline of my teeth. They were placed there in the event any major movements had to be made. Luckily, mine never had to be used. Not only were they starting to bother me, but they were major food traps! I know have a smile with a lot less " stuff " in it, especially after having all but 2 k-hooks removed last week. I had some pictures taken tonight, and they can be accessed at http://photos.yahoo.com/ashdash_99 . I am very hopeful over the coming weeks and look forward to the prospect of being able to enjoy some good food at Thanksgiving!
