Guest guest
I had a upper three piece lefort 1 done three months ago come Thursday, am still having nasal " issues " I have found the breath right strips to be a gift from god. so If you can find something like those or order them online I would deffintly suggest having a few boxes on hand. Childrens Dimatapp or any liquid decongestant is also a help, and nyquil taken without pain medicine was the only way I could sleep past two hours at night. I did a lot of mouth breathing but after a couple weeks could breath through my nose, just not super well. In the hospital...I don't remeber to be honost I know I had a tun in my nose because of problems with nausea and I had an oxygen mask that I just had lain on my chest to help with the nausea but I think I was probably breaing through my mouth...or at least one nostril. My surgeon said for some reason people are congested untill the splint comes off---so six weeks for most people who have upper jaw surgery. When the splint was removied things cleared pretty fast, but I am still having a little congestion and some weird things going on so I am not sure if that is normal or not but I see the surgeon again on Thursday. As far as the syringe, I used mine for four and part of the fifth week. but if you can use a spoon--you can use it sooner although I am not sure of time with both jaws. Ask your Surgeon and he will tell you. In all honesty I didn't find the syringe to be that big of a deal as a lot makes it out to be, but I also went into this with the mindset that I wasn't going to make it a big deal. A couple times the rubber cathader popped off the end and mashed potatoes or whatever went all over but I didn't even bother getting upset about it-- a POSTIVE mind and not feeling sorry for yourself will work wonders! I found at week two the syringe to be normal and and I was adjusted to it, and it even the fifth and sixth week the syringe was quicker for me to use then taking tiney bites with a spoon... And I couldn't seem to get a drink of water without spilling all over so I still used the syrunge for liqueds but was able to eat scrambled eggs and pasta and non liquified things like pudding or jello or potatoes once I got the go ahead to remove the elastics. > > > > > Hi all, > > > > G'day and thank you everyone for sharing your individual > experiences. > > It is great to have found the support group with my surgery date > > drawing nearer. > > > > I am shedule to have both jaw sugery and septoplasty done on 24 Nov > > 2004.
