Guest guest
Sure, write the researcher. It might help explain the multiple problems. A pure speculation is that the iron overload overloaded the ability of the mitochondria (the power house in the cells) to fail. This is the basic problem with Friedriech's Ataxia (spelling). However, in this case a protein (Frataxin) in certain types of cells (in the heart and spine and cerebellum) fail to remove the iron buildup. Write. If nothing else, it will help them look for other causes in the future. Regards, =jbf= B. Fisher

Guest guest
Lou, There are many programs in different areas of the country that are funded by the NIH that do studies on the genetics of families with these types of diseases in hopes to find a cause and thus a cure for them. I know these studies are done if they can take verbal histories and blood samples. I'm not sure about where to locate studies that take just a verbal history but it does sound like a good idea. It sure couldn't hurt to write the history down and send it out and see what kind of response you get. If nothing else, it might help you by simply putting the story into words.
