Hi ,

Have you checked with Hospice? Your dad does not have to be imminently

terminal to qualify. As long as continued deterioration is documented,

hopsice will usually cover some home care needs.

Subject: Home Health Care

My dad has been diagnosed with MSA for slightly over a year now. He will

be 76 in December. He stills lives at home with my 74 year old mother, his

primary caregiver. At this point, he cannot feed himself, dress himself,

bathe himself, most days, he cannot walk very much as he freezes

frequently. Needless to say, he cannot be left alone. He also has great

difficulty swallowing his medications. Obviously, my mother needs help in

caring for him. I go down about 2-3 times each week, but I work full time,

so I'm not able to offer all the help she needs. We have had a great deal

of trouble getting home health to provide services for him, in order to

assist with bathing, primarily. We are with the second agency now, but

they tell us they will probably dismiss him in a few weeks as there is no

medical need for their services. Do any of you have any suggestions as to

how to get help for my mom? They really don't have much money, so it's

difficult to think of paying out of pocket at this point. My mom really

wants to keep Dad at home, but I don't know how much longer she can carry

all of this on her own.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
