Guest guest
Hello, I had surgery four months ago for an open bite, and the results were great. I was never exactly sure how a normal bite should feel when you bite down, but it felt pretty even on both sides and I could bite and feel each tooth if I moved my jaw around in different ways. The only thing I was disappointed about was that was midline was off just a little bit. My regular orthodontist said " oh, no it looks pretty good to me! " when I mentioned it to him so he never did anything about it. A new, younger (and very cute I might add haha) orthodontist just started working at the office and I had him for the first time a few days ago. The first thing he said to me was " Wow, the surgeon did an excellent job on you!! Your midline is off jussst a little bit though " So what he did was put one elastic from my upper right eye tooth to my bottom right molar, and another elastic from my upper left molar to my bottom left eye tooth. So the elastics look like this: \ \ in my mouth, supposedly to shift the top teeth to the right and the bottom teeth to the left. In a matter of hours, I noticed and felt that my teeth had moved and the midline was better. The problem is, when I bite down, I think it may be my eye tooth or a molar on the left that feels like it's in the way or something and I'm unable to make my very back molars touch together on the left side. Do you think this is a problem? Can he be messing up all the work that my surgeon did during surgery? I mean so what if my midline is perfect after this if it feels weird to bite down. How does he know exactly how far the teeth will shift in the 6 weeks before my next appointment? Couldnt they keep moving until the midline is off the other direction? I'm just worrying since I get my braces off the time after my next appointment and so I want to be comfortable with my bite before they take them off.. Any input would be really appreciated!!
