Guest guest
I'm reading all your posts about comfort foods with great interest. Though we weren't wealthy, we never wanted for much either. My father was a NYC Fireman and had his own business on the side and my mother became a nurse when I was 12. What I remember most is that my mother never cooked. My father was never around, so we always had take out, Mc's and pizza were the biggies. When it wasn't that, we were eating TV dinners and pot pies. My mother used to almost brag that she cooked only twice a year, Easter and Thanksgiving. I remember my brother making mayo sandwiches for a snack when he came home from school. My other brother and I would eat frozen pound cake. Now that's good and from time to time will buy an Entemann's pound cake, slice it up and freeze individual slices so I can go back in time. Guess that would be one of my comfort foods. All the foods you have mentioned I could never even fathom. It's interesting what we remember about the food we were brought up on. When I got married, Tim came home with a fresh head of broccoli and I had to ask him what it was and what does one do with it. Had no clue. Never saw a fresh veggie in my house. Everything was canned or frozen when I was growing up. Horrendous eating habits that were so ingrained that I couldn't break them until I had this surgery.
