Guest guest Posted July 22, 2002 Report Share Posted July 22, 2002 Hi gang: I ate green melon (I think it's called honeydew) for the first time in years. I had just not had it in that long by chance. Omigosh it made my nose flare terribly!! Even caused my eyes to " flare " and I never have ocular and hardly ever have nose involvement. I know it was the melon because I at it by itself and the flare happened right after, then I ate the other half the next day to be sure and same thing happened. All melons, bananas and a few other odd things like chamomile, are potential culprits, but for some reason honeydew melon is the one always talked about in medical literature. (Maybe because it's such a great fruit. <g>) It's an individual thing; even people with a bad reaction to one melon can tolerate the rest. For example, I react to well-ripened honeydew in the summer -- if the melon isn't sweet I'm fine -- but I'm fine with the sweetest cantalope or watermelon.
