I have never personally taken accutane but I have 1 friend and a handful of

clients who have taken it so I have a few suggestions. First, are you sure

you want to take accutane? Where on the mild/moderate acne continuum are

you?

I had a college roommate who had mild acne - basically 1-2 breakouts/month on

her chin and she went on accutane because " she had horrible acne " . At the

time I really had no idea how ridiculous that was. If I knew then what I

know now I would have told her to exfoliate her chin more during the week she

ovulates then apply a good spot treatment and be done with it. I'm not

implying that is what is going on in your case.......just stating that if you

want to be on accutane you will find someone who will give it to you. In my

friend's case I professionally think she should not have been given accutane

for her mild acne.

I have one client in her 40's who had 2 rounds of accutane in her teens and

20's and is really glad that she did it.

I have another client who has an adventurous lifestyle and was not very

diligent aobout her skin care and had a horrible time with her skin while on

accutane. Her skin was just constantly peeling and kind of blistered and her

lips were just unbelievable. They never quit peeling the entire time.

I have another client who took much better care of her skin while on accutane

but suffered such crazy mood swings her family told her she had to cut it

out.

I guess I'll stop there. You get the idea. Anything can happen and you have

to take it seriously.

As for the dryness you are going to be DRY from the inside out and I mean

everywhere. Sure there are things you can do to compensate but it is an

issue you are going to have to face 24/7.

You are going to have to be committed to babying your skin but if you are

dedicated you can definitely make it work. Cut out hot baths/showers. Stay

out of the sun. Put oil all over your face & body while it is still wet

after bath/shower. Then you need to use a heavy cream. At night I would do

the same thing or alternate with something thick like aquaphor ointment. I

would spray a humectant toner for sensitive skin on my face all throughout

the day. You can email me privately if you want.
