Guest guest
Elena, I had my V-Star treatment just 2 weeks ago after hearing about a good experience that a guy in Germany had with this machine. I understand it's very like the V-Beam (long pulse dye). I have a long history of unsuccessful treatments (and I mean LONG!) including 20 (Yes twenty!) Photoderm treatments including 5 with Dr.Bitter Sr. and various other lasers. My condition has sometimes been referred to as cea but more lately has been identifed as Keratosis Pilaris Rubra Faceii. I've been a lurker on the cea board for a while since I believe there are significant similarities between the conditions - flushing being the primary symptom and I've been hoping to discover something new that might help. I was also involved in trying out some nitric oxide inhibitors after reading Nase's book but it turned out to be another dead end. It's still too early to say whether the V-Star treatment has worked - especially since the most aggressive (2 millisecond) shots are now hidden under beard growth since the treatment. I don't want to disturb this by shaving until I'm sure it's had time to fully heal. I'm sorry to hear that you made such good progress after 2 V-Beam sessions but now are flaring more. I guess it raises the question about what is really happening after a laser treatment. In layman's terms we probably think that we are destroying whole areas of vessels for good, but a doctor told me that this doesn't happen since it would mean that the skin would die in those areas. He said we are trying to coagulate sections of vessels so that scar tissue will form and the blood will be diverted elsewhere (perhaps deeper down). Therefore there might be a theoretical possibility that less blood flowing on the surface could lead to more blood flowing deeper down which might possibly explain an increase in flushing while the visible redness has been reduced. Once again, so little is known for sure about all of this that we are forced to speculate. My dream is of a machine that will be able to FULLY analyse each patients face and map exactly the depth and size of all the vessels so that the laser can be individually calibrated with the PRECISE parameters for perfect treatment. It'll happen one day! Rutin is one of the flavanoids that is associated with Vitamin C. The white pith in Oranges contains a lot of it and it is very helpful in strengthening the capillaries. It was recommended to me by a lady who tried electrolysis on my face a while back. She also had a problem with flushing and said that 1 or 2 grams of Rutin before an evening out would reduce her flushing. I find the combo of Rutin and Pycnogenol to be quite helpful - and in my experience Pynogenol has worked better than pure Grape Seed Extract. I haven't had a problem with cutting myself and bleeding so I don't know if that's a common problem with pycnogenol. But when I read that pycnogenol helps prevent blood clots it concerned me that this could interfere with the coagulation process after laser treatment. That's why I'm hoping to hear from someone who was taking it during and after their laser treatment - hopefully to have it confirmed that it didn't make a difference.
