Guest guest
I wonder if anyone knows if it is safe to fast? if an individual (namely me) is otherwise completely healthy. If it is then how long can an indivdual stay on a fast ie one day-24 hrs?? I have looked for info on this and it seems there is extreme opinions on this. Some either say it's wonderful, has antiinflammatry effects etc, and if the person is doing the fast is otherwise healthy (healthy weight, no other illness', on no medication etc) it's fine, whereas other articles quote doctors saying that fasts are ridiculous and unhealthy. I have decided that not eaing does help me. Obviously I may not last too long if I just don't eat (and willpower always forbids me to even get close to that stage) but I thought one daya week I may fast. I was even thinking of going a couple of days to see if I can just sort my skin out. --------------------------------- Get a bigger mailbox -- choose a size that fits your needs. http://uk.docs.yahoo.com/mail_storage.html

Guest guest
This is not a medical answer, Bridget, just my opinion/observation. Fasting involuntarily due to lack of food or voluntarily for spiritual reasons makes sense to me, but fasting for health reasons does not. That's not to say it's unhealthy or dangerous, although it can be. It's just unnecessary. Individuals with subtle or overt eating disorders and other psychological issues are often attracted to fasting regimens and tout a fast's virtues out of proportion to any real benefits, if there even are any. Fasting gives the illusion of control over one's body, which is very attractive to those who feel their bodies (or emotions or lives...) are out of their control. It's an interesting observation that your face is better without eating. I don't know what it means, but it's not clear to me how its meaning has practical relevance in the real world. Maybe when we understand the underlying pathophysiology of rosacea, personal observations like yours will finally be explained to our satisfaction. I'm curious: how does your face respond to gum chewing, or another repetitive facial activity that involves lots of movement and muscle work without emotions? Guest guest
Bidget I have fasted many times for 24 hours and on one occasion for 9 days on liquid only. It didn't do my R any harm at all. Fasting is good for the body but better for the soul. fasting- safety, rosacea > > I wonder if anyone knows if it is safe to fast? if an individual (namely me) is otherwise completely healthy. > > If it is then how long can an indivdual stay on a fast ie one day-24 hrs?? > > I have looked for info on this and it seems there is extreme opinions on this. Guest guest
huh. Well, that's exactly what I did and why I did it last winter when I was just too fed up with this cea stuff. I fasted to get control of it (ok, a feeling of it). I fasted for a few days (juice fast) and then introduced plain chicken soup, which I think I read that Dr. Nase had had to do at one point. Then I began my checklist as I added food back in. It did make me feel better. And I felt ready to take on watching my face for each food source reaction. I think it's healthier to fuel ourselves with appropriate nutrients; but I think that fasting to detox is also good. I think I found with fasting that it was the low carbs and grazing rather than 3 square meals/day that were kinda key for me rather than the denial of food. sa > >To: rosacea-support >Subject: Re: fasting- safety, rosacea >Date: Thu, 25 Jul 2002 06:15:53 -0000 > >This is not a medical answer, Bridget, just my opinion/observation. >Fasting involuntarily due to lack of food or voluntarily for >spiritual reasons makes sense to me, but fasting for health reasons >does not.
