Guest guest
I'm 29 and have had a mild case of rosacea. My derm prescribed Noritate, which I apply at night, and a non-prescription vitamin C creme to apply in the morning under my makeup. He also suggested I use a glycolic cleanser about every other day. Everything has worked well for the 2 years or so since i've started this regimen, and i see no reason to make any real changes, other than the fact that the vitamin c creme is $55 for a small jar. I was wondering if anyone could tell me why he might've prescribed this moisturizer in particular, and what qualities I should look for in other moisturizers that might have the same effects at a somewhat lower cost (and where such products can be purchased). Thanks! ---------------------------------

Guest guest
I've received a few questions about some of the products I mentioned, so I'm replying to the groups with the answers. But first, I'd like to give you a bit more details about the nature of my rosacea, just as background. Several years ago, I came to the point where once in a while, I would get a small, concentrated area of red pimples (about 1/2 inch square?) on one or both cheeks. It came and went, and because my cheeks had always been slightly redder than most people's, I didn't question it. But when friends began pointing it out with a hint of concern, I went to a derm and asked him if it could be rosacea. He confirmed it, and prescribed the Noritate, Glycolic Cleanser, and Vitamin C creme. Since then, the redness has definitely subsided as a result of using the products (although i'll always probably look like i might've just been walking outside on a sunny day for a couple of hours, which I don't mind.) If I look very closely, I can still see a few broken blood vessels, but the only time I notice an increase in redness is... - if I don't use the products for a day or two at a time - if I'm out for the night and drink lots of hard alcohol - if I have the very spicy red sauce at my favorite italian restaurant So in other words, nothing unusual. But no one has ever commented on my redness again. If anyone would like to try the products that I'm using, I think that's great, but please remember that I consider myself blessed with having such a mild case of rosacea, so I certainly can't speak for the effects they'll have (or not have) on people who've tried and failed with other treatments. My products include: - Noritate cream, 1% topical every night - Vitamin C Creme every morning. Description reads " A lightweight creme containing stable Vitamin C and antioxidants that firm and protect. Squalane and jojoba oil further nourish and hydrate. This forumla is ideal for combination to dry skin. " - Glycolic cleanser face and body wash (used only on my face) every other morning - Drugstore tubes of cover-up used every morning (I don't use a foundation) Both the vitamin C creme and glycolic cleanser can be purchased online through my derm at http://www.juvaskin.com/product/product_topframe.html. To the person who mentioned that glycolic cleanser is bad news... I've had no real problems with it, except perhaps that it might've resulted in a slight increase in redness immediately after I had my eyebrows waxed. (So I've learned to not use the cleanser the same day I go for a wax.) I also have a slight case of melasma causing a dark shadow above my lip in the summertime, so I've found the glycolic cleanser coupled with a hydroquinone cream (made by AlphaHydrox) helps with that as well. Phew! I'll spare you with the story of my attempts to ward off crows feet. If anyone has any other questions, I'd be glad to answer them. gottstein@... > > > > I'm 29 and have had a mild case of rosacea. I visited the site as well. Thanks for posting it. I do have a question, if you can stand one more. Am I correct in assuming that you only use the glycolic cleanser in the morning, every second day. Do you use anything at night to remove your makeup? Thanks for sharing. Take care

Guest guest
I just checked the website and was excited to see that your doc is located in NYC! Do you mind if I ask which derm you see, and if you would recommend him. It seems like his products are working for you. I'm looking for a new derm in the city, but haven't had much luck. Thanks. gottstein wrote:I've received a few questions about some of the products I mentioned, so I'm replying to the groups with the answers. Guest guest
Originally, I saw Dr. Katz, who I believe is the head derm at the practice. He was perfectly nice and confirmed what i already suspected. When I went for a followup appt a month or two after he first prescribed the treatments, he was on vacation, so I saw Dr. Lee (?). He basically turned my head to one side, then the other, and said " keep doing what you're doing. " Last year when I went back, I saw Dr. Bishop, which was probably because I wasn't up to waiting a long time to get an appt with Dr. Katz. (If memory serves, Dr. Katz was mentioned in one of the most recent " Best Doctors in NY " issues.) I have an appt to see Dr. Bishop again next month. I'm happy with all three, and although none kept me engaged with a talent for chit-chat, they all seemed quite competent. If you're interested in going there, I'd try to see Dr. Katz, at least the first time. At a minimum, it's comforting knowing that many of the treatments they offer for more serious cases can be done on-premises in nice facilities. And , to answer your question, yes, I use the glycolic cleanser every other morning in the shower. At night, I just use a standard bar of neutrogena soap and water to remove my makeup. I don't really wear very much. Good luck everyone! (And btw - i guess to answer my own original question, I should continue using the $55 jar of creme since it seems to be working!) > > > > > > I'm 29 and have had a mild case of rosacea.
