Guest guest
Hi, Since some of us have seb derm along with our rosacea, I thought I'd pass the following article along.... FDA approves phototherapy system for dermatologic conditions Last Updated: 2002-07-23 16:46:01 -0400 (Reuters Health) WASHINGTON (Reuters Health) - TheraLight Inc., a privately held developer of light-based medical instruments, said on Tuesday that it received clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market its UV120-2 UVA/UVB phototherapy system for the treatment of psoriasis, vitiligo, and atopic and seborrheic dermatitis. The Carlsbad, California company said in a statement that the product is the first targeted phototherapy system to emit either UVA or UVB (operator selectable) bands of ultra-violet light. TheraLight President Ray Hartman said that the product will be available soon and physicians would be able to use the existing federal reimbursement codes for the targeted phototherapy. The firm emphasized that the treatment would be both affordable and efficient. Hartman also said the company is working with clinicians and researchers to optimize use of the device combined with topical therapies to minimize the number of treatments that each patient must undergo. Guest guest
Matija, phototherapy is a very confusing area, but this sounds like a PUVA-type treatment, which involves using a photosensitive drug activated by ultraviolet light to treat skin condition. It's not like the laser-type treatments we've been talking about. See http://www.dermnetnz.org/dna.puva/puva.html I guess the " gimmick " of this machine is that it also emits UVB, which makes it PUVB treatment too, I guess. <g> Marjorie > Hi, > > Since some of us have seb derm along with our rosacea, I thought I'd > pass the following article along.... > > FDA approves phototherapy system for dermatologic conditions > > Last Updated: 2002-07-23 16:46:01 -0400 (Reuters Health) > > WASHINGTON (Reuters Health) - TheraLight Inc., a privately held > developer of light-based medical instruments, said on Tuesday that it > received clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to > market its UV120-2 UVA/UVB phototherapy system for the treatment of > psoriasis, vitiligo, and atopic and seborrheic dermatitis. > > The Carlsbad, California company said in a statement that the product > is the first targeted phototherapy system to emit either UVA or UVB > (operator selectable) bands of ultra-violet light. > > TheraLight President Ray Hartman said that the product will be > available soon and physicians would be able to use the existing > federal reimbursement codes for the targeted phototherapy.
