Guest guest
Your rosacea sounds just like mine!!! I just started to get the blotchy, brownish-reddish cheeks. Fortunately for me, I have freckles, so it really just looks like a cluster of freckles on my cheeks. That is a symptom or rosacea!! Also, there is something called Malasma. Women get it who have been on oral contraceptives for a long time. It looks like a light birth mark on a woman's face (mostly on or around the check bone area). Also called the " Mask of Pregnancy. " Interesting name since birth control causes it. I was thinking my may be a combination of both since it is light brown and not so much red?!?!?! Guest guest
Hi there, I am a new member to the group. 2 months ago my doctor told me that i have rosacea. I have since started with MetroCream and have not seen any change. I have spent quite some time on the net trying to learn what I can. I have a couple of questions for you... I am not sure if i infant have rosacea, though I could very well be in denial. Does anyone have symptoms like mine? I DO NOT have a & #34;red & #34; face or any & #34;acne & #34;. I do have a red chin (It has always been red - since I was a teenager). My skin is not itchy, hurt or burn. What I do have is 2 (one on each upper cheek) large irregular reddish/pinkish/brownish blotches on my cheekbones close to my hairline. They look almost like shiny patches or rash. There appear to be some light red spots, but very few and i do not & #34;flush & #34; the rash is always there, and only gets darker when i rub them. I do not seem to have symptoms as severe as some i have read lately. The rash (as I call it) started on one cheek and then appeared about 6 weeks later on the other cheek. It started 18 months ago. Once the rash appeared it has never gone away or seemed to worsen. Does this sound like what any of you have? I went and had a spa facial before this and the beautician said that i had broken capillaries, though no mention of rosacea. I would appreciate your feedback! Sincerely, Bonnie Senecal Canada __________________________________________________

Guest guest
Just to clarify if you'd like to do some research on your own - the proper spelling is Melasma, and one of the most common manifestations resulting from birth control is a mysterious moustache-like shadow. I have both melasma and rosacea, and the blotchiness definitely worsens during the summertime due to increased exposure to the sun. Like lpickel, it tends to blend in with my freckels which also come out with the sun, so it hasn't bothered me terribly. Products with 2% hydroquinone are sold OTC to counter the effects, but your derm can prescribe a stronger version if that's what you have. Here's an OTC version made by alpha hydrox that i've been pleased with: http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=45945 & catid=13564 & trx=SRCH-0-HV & t\ rxp1=alpha+hydrox+fade & trxp2=45945 I have no idea if there is a correlation between the two conditions (i.e., if people who have one are more likely to have the other.) I'd be curious to find out. lpickel@... wrote: > Your rosacea sounds just like mine!!! I just started to get the blotchy, > brownish-reddish cheeks. Guest guest
It sounds like Malasma to me. cea has blood vessels involved causing the redness. Malasma is the darkening of the skin -hormones cause it. The sun would darken the Malasma. Prescription creams are the treatment. If it doesn't respond, face peels done by a good doctor are often recommended. Re: question for all of you > Your rosacea sounds just like mine!!!
