Hey there... ?

I am new to the diet (17 weeks and counting!) so I have not been able to add

Omega 3 back in yet (I am still working on some other supplements to be sure I

can tolerate them).

However, I can tell you that I am a big fan of Puritan's Pride

TRIPLE STRENGTH OMEGA-3 FISH OIL 1360 mg:

http://www.puritan.com/omega-3-products-128/triple-strength-omega-3-fish-oil-136\

0-mg-016105?NewPage=1

I cannot recommend a dosage for you though ;( I have an integrative medical

doctor who educates his patients about balancing Omega-3s and Omega-6s in their

diet. He uses the Fish Oil as a balancer to your diet when you are too high in

Omega-6s- his theory is that we need to eat at a 2:1 (or 1:1) ratio and not a

20:1 raito as most American's do! The great news is that the SCD diet is so

healthy that it already cuts out a lot of the Omega-6 culprits.

Sorry I can't be more specific about a dosage. Hopefully you can find some

guidance!

I take 1000 MG of salmon oil, 1000 MG of a blend of anchovy/mackerel/sardine

oil, and 1000 MG of cod liver oil per day. I think it's helpful.

I take an omega 3-6-9-D supplement. I think it's helped but I am not sure what

the exact dose is.

Last week, our doc told us that there's huge benefits from taking 1000 to 3000 mg per day of Omega 3. But he made us stop taking omega 3-6-9. He said something about most people getting wayyyy too much omega 6 or something like that, or 6 was the last thing we needed.... Sorry.. I can't remember exactly, but his tone of voice and insistence on the issue made me accept it right away. I trashed the 3-6-9 and got plain old omega 3. He also told us that the best food sources of omega 3 were walnuts and coldwater fish.

This lengthy webmd article looks very helpful

Your doctor is 100% Correct! Most people eat way too much Omega 6's. You can

read and educate yourself more at:

http://efaeducation.nih.gov/

(this site also has downloadable software so that you can enter foods and see

what their Omega 3 and 6 content is)

Coldwater fish is an excellent source of Omega 3's, but AVOID any farmed fish.

They are fed a diet high in corn and soy (instead of wildcaught which feeds on

algae and other fish as they are intended to in nature) and are very high in

Omega 6's. Your best choices for seafood high in Omega 3's are Wild-caught

salmon, Sardines, Shrimp and Crab.

Walnuts are not a good choice of Omega 3's. While they do, indeed, have 2574 in

Omega 3's, they also carry 10,799 in Omega 6's. So the net total is not

desirable.

That being said, all nuts have a high Omega 6 balance and that just cannot be

avoided on this diet. We all have to make personal decisions and as far as I'm

concerned, I've never had better results with this SCD diet! So I am willing to

eat nuts and try to balance them out with other foods high in Omega 3's.

Perhaps this was more info than you were looking for :) I am passionate about

nutrition so I just wanted to share!
