Guest guest
Marilyn (or anyone else who wants to join in), could you clarify why you use EPO again. I remember you said that it helped you with the menopause transition in retrospect, but why did you begin using it? TIA, Mara

I remember you said that it helped you with the menopause transition in retrospect, but why did you begin using it? Mara, I started using it because GLA (gamma linolenic acid, one of the primary items in EPO) is the active ingredient in an illegal, which is the only thing which keeps my back from locking up in spasms. Turned out it was good for menopause, too. And I found out that the NSAIDs I was prescribed after my surgery cut its effectiveness, which was part of the reason I started having horrid hot flashes after the surgery. Had to double up on it, and take it separate from the NSAIDs. Took me the better part of a year to get things stable again after those darned NSAIDs. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund

Guest guest
I am trying to get back on borage seed oil but I'm not tolerating it for some reason. I took borage and fish oil for at least ten years without a problem for PMS, fibroids, etc. I just added pomegranate (sp?) supplements separately to see how it goes. A doctor on a Sunday morning news show was talking about it. There was a book on all this--an accidental find about 20 years ago which is how I started taking it. I think it was Beyond Pritiken--my mom's book at the time but it does a great job explaining the hormone/borage/fish oil. It says to take it with safflower oil for better absorption but I never could stand it. Still got benefits from it. Sorry, just typing on this miniature computer andit doesn't seem to get any easier... Debbie 40cd > Hi Marilyn, > > Why do you say that GLA is the active ingredient in an illegal… Is EPO > illegal? Guest guest
Hi Debbie, I just stopped taking borage oil. Some parts of the plant/seed can cause toxicity. Do some research on the internet if you'd like... EPO is much safer as its properties/benefits/effects have been studied for longer periods of time. Thanks Marilyn for your clarification. Guest guest
EPO caused me trouble ages ago and I switched to black current oil which I have no trouble with. I'd have a hard time without one of these; hot flashes are quite bad enough with all I DO do to counteract them. I just stopped taking borage oil. Some parts of the plant/seed can cause toxicity. Gotta love it -- I can't do borage (allergic to it) and black current gives me the runs! But I agree that hot flashes are the pits. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
