Coconut Oil Q

Is raw extra virgin oil coconut supposed to be better refrigerated or not?  I had it refrigerated and recently noticed the bottle said not to refrigerate.  I don't want it to go rancid.

I wish I'd found it sooner.  It's sooo good.

Debbie,I just leave mine on the counter. Whenever I need some oil, I just plunk the jar into a pan of very hot tap water and within minutes it is in a liquid state (I live in a cold climate). After awhile of sitting out again, it is hard once more.If there isn't any mold, you are most likely o.k., just don't refrigerate it in the future.AmeliaHusband UC 9 years, SCD 19monthsLDN 3 mgFrom: Debbie

It doesn't need refrigeration and unless you live in a very hot climate

it is hard enough at room temperature to dig out. It's like a brick just

out of the frig. Unlike many things, coconut oil has a very long

shelf life at room temperature, I suppose because it's tropical and lasts

there OK.

I can state that the coconut oil which arrived the week before Hurricane

Katrina did not die from being un-airconditioned or refrigerated for

about five weeks in August and September in New Orleans. It didn't go

with us when we evacuated.

Sounds like you have done the test for us, then.

Yes, although I would really prefer not to have needed to!

That's the hottest time of the year and the most humid so I guess sitting on the counter in Feb is not going to hurt anything ;-).  Thanks.
