Guest guest
Hi Cathy, I think that the cake was feature in a Martha Weddings mag. The cake was a wedding gift to us and made by the master bakery at the Wickininish. That's the fancy resort in Tofino where all the very wealth and famous people go. We chose the Tin Wis for our reception though, because of price and we like it there. The Tin Wis is run by local First Nations and the name translates to "Calm Waters." Thought it was an appropriate place to start a marriage. Back to the cake. It was chocolate and had 4 layers with a chocolate mousse in between each. The outside was covered in marzipan and hand decorated with real chocolate. Oh, oh, I'm drooling. The original picture was all round layers but we had to go with square to feed all the guests. It was cut a served as desert and was just lovely. Hope that gives you enough info. Our wedding was very peaceful and relaxed. When we first got engaged everyone was asking and offering way too much advice, so we sat down and decided what we wanted and then annouced what we were doing. Some people were in doubt when we said we were wearing saries but when the wedding took place everyone was saying it was so beautiful and magical. In the begining, we found that people were wanting us to do what they wanted and I think that's where alot of the wedding stress comes from. It seems that weddings are not for the bride and groom but for everyone else and everyone tries to put their influence into it. I highly recommend that your son and future wife sit down and plan what they want as soon as possible and that will take alot of stress out of it. Wish you son the best for me and I hope they have a stress free wedding. Take care, Elaine Wedding Pictures Cathy, Here's the pictures you asked for. Guest guest
Elaine, Good advice. I am keeping my mouth shut unless asked. My son and future daughter are old enough to know what they want. is 30, an architectual planner(he coincidentally works on pharmaceutical plants) and Michele is 33. The cost is pretty fantastic. Your wedding was certainly beautiful. I loved the saries. I am going to share the pic of the cake. Take care. Cathy Wedding Pictures Cathy, Here's the pictures you asked for. Guest guest
Elaine, You also have a few years to save! I have heard that the cost is now spread between both families and the bride and groom. The average wedding today costs between $15 and $20,000. Isn't that atrocious. What a nice downpayment on a house. I am lucky these two are both employed and taking an active part in the finances. Cathy Wedding Pictures Cathy, Here's the pictures you asked for. Guest guest
Cathy & Elaine, We have married off two daughters and yes it is costly. We were able to cut some of the expenses by doing things ourselves. I did the bridesmaid headpieces, all the flowers, favors etc. It really saves quite a bit of money. When my son got married my D-I-L's Mom had no interest in helping with or planning the wedding. They both had good jobs so they were able to pay a portion of it. Still have 2 daughters at home, but it will be awhile before they plan any weddings. Sandy Elaine, You also have a few years to save! Guest guest
Hi Cathy, Yes that is outrageous! We did very well with our wedding. We went with a lunchtime wedding fully catered and only cost around $1200 with everything else included we came out around $4000. So there are ways of doing it for less. We had almost 100 guests. With the lunch we didn't have the expense of the dance or alcohol and we were able to invite more people. My suggestion to any couple to be is to have the food catered. It is the bigest stress of them all, unless you have at least 10 or more people to work on the food. Hope the wedding doesn't drive you crazy or cost you too much. Take care.
