Guest guest
On a whim, I figured I'd check my chicken broth (I use that " Better than boullion " stuff to supplement my home-made chicken broth [as I can't seem to make chicken broth as fast as I use it up]), and I noticed that it has 1g of sugar per cup. Sigh. I'm near the end of day 2 of a planned 4 days of the intro diet. Is it time to dump all the food I've been cooking over the past few days and start the intro diet over, or this not that big of a deal? (I'd guess I've had 2g of sugar yesterday and 2g today, and I have 2 qts of the stuff on the stove as we speak Blahhh

It is a big deal - especially on intro. All bouillion is illegal, as it probably also contains things like MSG and lots of other illegal and bad for you things. Invest in a mega pot - and use the new pot to cook double or triple the amount that you've been cooking. More pot = less cooking time. Guest guest
We are not supposed to use ready made chicken broth for that reason. We are supposed to make our own from the recipe on BTVC. There have been several posts recently on the benefits of home made broths with bones. Commercial broths do not give the same benefits as they take short cuts and always have additives. Even a small bit of sugar is a feast for bacteria. Sorry. Dump it, get some chicken wings and boil up a batch of healthy broth. Don't kick yourself. Mistakes are common in the beginning and we've all been there. This is why this board it here- to help. " I have yet to find a commercial chicken, turkey, or beef broth which doesn't have " natural flavors " or HFCS, or sugar, or even " raw evaporated cane juice. " Do you have some friends who would like what they'll think is " real homemade soup " so what you've made doesn't go to waste? I think you've done a good job of dumping the starch and sugar. Lots of people make mistakes like yours. You don't want to stay on an intro diet more than a few days... I think I would finish up what you are doing, then add some SCD legal foods, and then, in a couple weeks, come back and re-do a proper intro. Many people have started just by eliminating all illegals, and then come back and re-done a proper intro. But yeah, that 2 grams of sugar isn't much by your body size, but it's one heckuva smorgasboard for the bad bacteria in your gut! — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund

Don't eat it yourself, but I'm sure there's SOMEBODY you know who would enjoy your chicken soup. No need to waste food unless you absolutely have to!
