Guest guest
Heya , I have learned that Digestive Enzymes are a pretty loaded subject. Very good that you are reading Enzymestuff.com If you are having GB issues you may be better off taking a high Pancreatin type enzyme. Broad support enzymes are good in general as they provide a balance. I wouldn't be too worried about the yeast connection since part of what feeds yeast is non fully digested food. It's a chicken/egg scenario really. Maybe you should try a Betaine Hydrocholride first. If you have low stomach acid to begin with this will be great. If your stomach acid is too much it will make you feel horrible. Part of the issue then becomes maintaining a good PH. I personally do this by drinking lemon water daily every AM. Rotating antifungals is very important as well as switching them every couple of weeks. You can add something like extra virgin coconut oil into the mix and/or Lauricidin which is a chemical compound within coconut oil. IMO the Lauricidin (not the coconut oil itself) needs to be taken far from probiotics in general. Jodi > > Hi everyone, > I'm needing to add more carbs in - if i decide to introduce digestive enzymes should i try Digest Gold (with ViraStop maybe?) or peptizyde and HN-Zyme from Houston Enzymes? I'm currently using antifungals (rotating every 2 weeks - Capryl, Candidase, olive leaf extract). Can you use antifungals and digestive enzymes - maybe just take them an hour or more away from each other? Reading on enzymestuff.com i'm just not sure if i should try Digest gold with the high protease and fruit derived enzymes (bromelain, papain) since i'm fighting yeast. Fruit and higher vegetable carbs are a problem and when i eat too much fat (olive oil) i have a pain in my upper right side - gall bladder i think. The Candidase i did ok on starting with 1/2 capsule for 4-5 days and then 1 capsule for a week. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! > > > SCD - 17 months > SCD and anti-candida - almost 4 months > Gluten Sensitive dx - 01/08 > Gluten free - 01/08 >

Guest guest
Hey Jodi, Thank you so much for the helpful information. Maybe i'll try the Betaine Hydrochloride first. I'm not sure if i have too much acid or not enough - is there a test i can do myself (i guess taking the Betaine Hydrochloride may tell me huh?) or can my Dr. do a test? Any recommendations on an SCD legal betaine hydrochloride and also a legal pancreatin enzyme in case i need to try that? I'm glad to hear the lemon juice helps you - i've just started adding that (2 tiny drops in warm water first thing in the morning). Lemon juice really killed my stomach before but i think i was taking too much. It seems ok now since it's a tiny amount and i don't do it every morning. Thanks again so much....you're a great help! > > > > Hi everyone, > > I'm needing to add more carbs in - if i decide to introduce digestive enzymes should i try Digest Gold (with ViraStop maybe?) or peptizyde and HN-Zyme from Houston Enzymes? Guest guest
Heya , I am not so well versed on the official test that measures stomach acid since few docs have it. There are different ways to do a challenge DIY style.. One of them is to take HCL and if it's in drops it's easier just use a miniscule amount with food and see how it works. GRADUALLY increase if you feel better. You may feel worse- that either means excess stomach acid is present or that too much is being produced. The GAPS store has a nice explaination and sells a legal capsule; http://www.shop.gapsdiet.com/product.sc?productId=15 & categoryId=5 I too, had to start on a small amount of lemon water and gradually up the amount. I used to have a disaster of upper GI issues. I have not found a legal pancreatin type enzyme but there sure are supplements out there that have the pancreatin/lipase/amylase quite high. What are the difficult foods for you to digest? Do you find this has anything to do with time of day? Are you peeling and desseding everything? Guest guest
FYI, my son's toxicologist wanted him to take HCL along with enzymes before each meal The nurse had a hard time finding the HCL the Dr. wanted so they told us that a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar (ACV) would do the same thing. ACV is simple, cheap and more commonly found in most households, so it may be easier for you to try a little ACV first to see if it helps answer the question of whether you're producing too much stomach acid or not enough. ..· ´¨¨)) -:¦:-¸.·´ .·´¨¨))((¸¸.·´ ..·´ -:¦:--:¦:- ((¸¸.·´* To: BTVC-SCD Sent: Sun, February 21, 2010 1:40:58 PMSubject: Re: Digestive enzymes while on anti-candida SCD Heya ,I am not so well versed on the official test that measures stomach acid since few docs have it. Guest guest
Thanks Jodi! I may order the HCL to try. Thanks for the Gaps link - that has good information. Last August it was time for my 3 yr. colonoscopy and i had my first endoscopy and there was stomach lining irritation with green bile and dried blood. She wasn't sure why but said something about stomach acid (i can't remember exactly) and i assumed i was producing too much. I'll start with a tiny amount of the HCL. The only foods i'm tolerating are chicken, fish, shrimp, scallops, occasionally bison, well cooked broccoli and asparagus and raw romaine lettuce, EVOO, sea salt and pepper. I was eating green beans, (i deseeded them in the beginning of the diet), carrots and ripe banana but when i cut them out it seemed to help my pain. It seems the fruit and higher carb veggies are more difficult for me to digest. Since eating only low carb i have tried well cooked pureed blueberries diluted with water and couldn't tolerate them and pears the same way (peeled twice before cooking). I've tried cabbage and cauliflower and the cabbage may be ok but the cauliflower i think wasn't. I'll try cabbage again. I haven't noticed about the time of day but i'll try to pay closer attention. My pain is worse when i wake up in the morning and after i get up and get moving it'll ease up - if it's bad i can still feel it throughout the day but is definitely a lot worse right when i wake up. I'm glad you're doing better - sounds like you've had many struggles as well. It gives me hope so thank you so much!! > > > > > > > > Hi everyone, > > > > I'm needing to add more carbs in - if i decide to introduce digestive enzymes should i try Digest Gold (with ViraStop maybe?) or peptizyde and HN-Zyme from Houston Enzymes? Guest guest
Hi , Thanks so much for the information! I have some ACV so i'll try a little of that in the morning. Did you just mix a small amount with a little water or drizzle it on his food? Is Bragg's ACV with the mother SCD legal? That's what i have but may go ahead and get the regular to try. Seems like for some reason i've read the kind with the mother wasn't but could be wrong. I met with a Nutritionist this past Friday and she mentioned she's started adding a little in the morning and before dinner and that's helped with her constipation (she's celiac and has had lots of digestive issues also). I'll try the ACV first since i have some but if Bragg's isn't SCD legal i'll get some regular organic ACV which i've seen at my local Kroger. Thanks again! > > > > > > > > Hi everyone, > > > > I'm needing to add more carbs in - if i decide to introduce digestive enzymes should i try Digest Gold (with ViraStop maybe?) or peptizyde and HN-Zyme from Houston Enzymes? Guest guest
Hey , Do you know the status of the stomach lining now? If you have active irritation DO NOT take any HCL. That would be a recipe for disaster. Personally, for me.. I had to go low tech style with the diet and just do it for quite a while with absolutely no supplements. I had tried at various times and I learned my lesson. I am kind of thankful actually since IMO people who are supplement free get the quickest results. If taking supplements I like the whole food derived ones.. Kim M is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to the upper GI.. I would totally take some pointers from her (I sure did, LOL!!) Are there any supplements that agree with you? Which ones are you on? If you do decide to go the enzyme route make sure you eat a couple of bites of food and then take your enzyme. I know it usually says before food but some of us really need to get those juices flowing before throwing in a harsh enzyme. Jodi > > > > > > > > > > Hi everyone, > > > > > I'm needing to add more carbs in - if i decide to introduce digestive enzymes should i try Digest Gold (with ViraStop maybe?) or peptizyde and HN-Zyme from Houston Enzymes?
I would totally take some pointers from her (I sure did, LOL!!) Guest guest
My son drinks it straight out of a little plactic dosing cup, and chases it with some water - but then he's always loved anything vinegar. He would choose a pickle over a cookie anyday The mother in Bragg's isn't legal - but you can filter it through a coffee filter and it would work great. >> FYI, my son's toxicologist wanted him to take HCL along with enzymes before each meal. The nurse had a hard time finding the HCL the Dr. wanted so they told us that a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar (ACV) would do the same thing. ACV is simple, cheap and more commonly found in most households, so it may be easier for you to try a little ACV first to see if it helps answer the question of whether you're producing too much stomach acid or not enough.> > >

Guest guest
Hi Mara, I don't mean to be redundant...Braggs ACV " with the mother " has yeast? Is straining it enough? Is there another brand that would be better? Thanks, Randi > > > Hi , > > Thanks so much for the information! I have some ACV so i'll try a little of that in the morning. Guest guest
Hi Jodi, I think my irritation is better but i've had some pain recently so maybe i shouldn't try the ACV or HCL right now. The only supplements i'm taking are Freeda multivitamin, Pure Encapsulations B-complex and Active B6 P5B50 (my Dr. said this helps some people to absorb the B-complex better), Pure Encapsulations Acidophilus, Pure Encapsulations Vitamin D-3 (4,000 iu's per day). I wonder if i should just drop a supplement for a few days or so just to see. I'm just not eating any fruit or med-high carb veggies so i know i'm missing out on some valuable nutrients (i met with a Nutritionist last Fri. and she suggested the digestive enzymes to try to add more veggies and fruit - she was concerned how unbalanced my diet is with hardly any carbs). She wanted me to re-evaluate the B-vitamins i'm taking w/my Dr. Yesterday i didn't take the active B-6 so i'll omit that for a few days to see if it makes a difference. I put 2 drops of lemon juice in my water this morning and can kind of feel a little something going on with my stomach so maybe that's a sign not to do the ACV or HCL - i only had Bragg's ACV so i didn't try it this morning - i've had it for a while so don't know if it's still good. I had been putting a tiny bit of baking soda in my water in the morning and a little in my water bottle that i take to work (with a tiny bit of sea salt) because i read where that can help to buffer the acid and it seems to have been helping. The nutritionist said to stop that and see how i do with just the little bit of lemon. Before using the baking soda i would get to feeling acidic (burning in bum mainly after elimination) - i wonder if that means i have too much acid or is it just die-off? I often feel burning when i urinate. But if i have low acid the ACV or HCL would help if my stomach lining can take it. Ugh, sorry for all of the questions! lol! I get so overwhelmed trying to figure this out. My GI Dr. had prescribed liquid carafate (which has illegal sorbitol) for my stomach lining irritation and it helped but i'm sure made my yeast worse. I would like to fix what's causing the irritation rather than just treat the symptom. I think i'll just try the digestive enzymes first and see how that goes. Although, i forgot to bring my vitamins with me today and i usually take them after eating lunch - maybe i won't take them for a few days and see how that goes before trying the enzymes(exept my D-3 - i think i need that or i start feeling bad). I try to puree my foods when possible - maybe i just need to take a whole weekend and eat only pureed foods and try to cut back on the animal protein. If it weren't for you guys on this forum i don't know what I'd do!! Thanks for sharing all of your experiences - it helps me so much. Thanks again so much for your help Jodi and warning me about the irritation and HCL! If you see anything else that i might need to do or not do - please let me know, i'm welcome to more suggestions!! My brain hurts! lol! > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi everyone, > > > > > > I'm needing to add more carbs in - if i decide to introduce digestive enzymes should i try Digest Gold (with ViraStop maybe?) or peptizyde and HN-Zyme from Houston Enzymes? Guest guest
Randi,You basically need yeast to make vinegar. It is o.k. It is just usually not included when the vinegar is ready to be bottled. For some makers of vinegar, they include it when they bottle the vinegar. For SCDers, you don't want to accidentally consume the yeast, so straining it is good enough.AmeliaHusband UC 9 years, SCD 20 monthsLDN 3 mgTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Mon, February 22, 2010 3:47:51 PMSubject: Re: Digestive enzymes while on anti-candida SCD Hi Mara, I don't mean to be redundant...
