Randi,You basically need yeast to make vinegar. It is o.k. It is just usually not included when the vinegar is ready to be bottled. For some makers of vinegar, they include it when they bottle the vinegar. ,I wanted to pass along something I read recently. Low stomach acid and high stomach acid can actually have the same symptoms. Low stomach acid, however, can allow pathogens to flourish in the stomach when the normal acid level would kill them off. Low stomach acid can somehow lead to the relaxing of the sphincter values at the end of the esophagus and at the opening to the bowels from the stomach which will lead to that heartburn feeling. The pathogens themselves can put off irritating toxins that can inflame the stomach causing it to burn and hurt. I heard a good test was to take a bit of water with baking soda first thing in the morning. You should hear/feel a bit of gurgling immediately after drinking if you have a good stomach acid level. Hi Jodi,

I think my irritation is better but i've had some pain recently so maybe i shouldn't try the ACV or HCL right now. The only supplements i'm taking are Freeda multivitamin, Pure Encapsulations B-complex and Active B6 P5B50 (my Dr. said this helps some people to absorb the B-complex better), Pure Encapsulations Acidophilus, Pure Encapsulations Vitamin D-3 (4,000 iu's per day). I wonder if i should just drop a supplement for a few days or so just to see. I'm just not eating any fruit or med-high carb veggies so i know i'm missing out on some valuable nutrients (i met with a Nutritionist last Fri. and she suggested the digestive enzymes to try to add more veggies and fruit - she was concerned how unbalanced my diet is with hardly any carbs). She wanted me to re-evaluate the B-vitamins i'm taking w/my Dr. Yesterday i didn't take the active B-6 so i'll omit that for a few days to see if it makes a difference.

I put 2 drops of lemon juice in my water this morning and can kind of feel a little something going on with my stomach so maybe that's a sign not to do the ACV or HCL - i only had Bragg's ACV so i didn't try it this morning - i've had it for a while so don't know if it's still good. I had been putting a tiny bit of baking soda in my water in the morning and a little in my water bottle that i take to work (with a tiny bit of sea salt) because i read where that can help to buffer the acid and it seems to have been helping. The nutritionist said to stop that and see how i do with just the little bit of lemon. Before using the baking soda i would get to feeling acidic (burning in bum mainly after elimination) - i wonder if that means i have too much acid or is it just die-off? I often feel burning when i urinate. But if i have low acid the ACV or HCL would help if my stomach lining can take it. Ugh, sorry for all of the questions! lol! I get so

overwhelmed trying to figure this out. My GI Dr. had prescribed liquid carafate (which has illegal sorbitol) for my stomach lining irritation and it helped but i'm sure made my yeast worse. I would like to fix what's causing the irritation rather than just treat the symptom.

I think i'll just try the digestive enzymes first and see how that goes. Although, i forgot to bring my vitamins with me today and i usually take them after eating lunch - maybe i won't take them for a few days and see how that goes before trying the enzymes(exept my D-3 - i think i need that or i start feeling bad). I try to puree my foods when possible - maybe i just need to take a whole weekend and eat only pureed foods and try to cut back on the animal protein. Re: lauricidn, I assume you have used it yourself? How far apart do/did you

space lauricidn and probiotics? I have just started taking lauricidn. My plan

is to take it with lunch and dinner, and take my probiotics in the morning and

perhaps right before going to bed.

Personally, stay away from ACV and HCL until healing takes place.

I would also advise you to back off as many supplements as possible until some

healing takes place.

Is there any way you can get IV's?

Mal-absorption sucks! but once you start healing you won't malabsorb and you

will get a lot more out of food. As of now it's hard to say what is actually

nourishing you and what is aggravating your situation.

But I am not a doctor, just speaking from my own experience.

The SCD will correct your bad gut dysbiosis.

That is what you need to stop feeding the bad bugs at this point.

You see now you are in this vicious cycle- by feeding the bad bugs you just make

the irritation worse. Like pouring gas on teh flame really.

Get the diet down and after that look for definitions and reasoning.

I know it is frustrating, but it is just part of the process.

Yes, I have tried some things and have lived to share the tale LOL.

I would totally keep it like 4 hours apart. Many differing opinions about this

one! Some don't even think it's an issue, some only feel 2 hours necessary...

Thanks Mara! I checked my Kroger for the Spectrum and it looked liked it had

the mother as well so i bought some more Bragg's with the mother (it was on

sale) and if i try the ACV i'll just strain it out. I give a little to my dog

(she sometimes has yeast problems too!) so i'll strain it for her too!

On my healing journey I’ve had to do without most

supplements. Between a malfunctioning digestive and nervous system, an

oversensitive immune system, and having Interstitial Cystitis (bladder lining

inflammation) taking a supplement is a constant challenge. It is

frustrating when everyone tells you to try this or that to fix that problem but

your body reacts badly and makes things a lot worse [sigh].

The most important thing I learned when I started SCD was

that supplements caused problems more often than foods. As a result, I

went several months without using any supplements, then started adding one at a

time. If I started getting symptoms I’d stop all supplements for a

few weeks, then pick the most important one and work with just that one for a

while, trying different dosages and frequency of use, trying a different mode

of use (mixing in water instead of swallowing a capsule), trying

different brands, trying to take it at different times of day. Sometimes

I could work with my body to take that supplement, most of the time I could

not.

Digestive enzymes happen to be one of the most challenging

supplements for me. Still can’t take them. I could use them

as I have a malfunctioning upper GI and low levels of bile and pancreatic

enzymes but my immune system responds every time. So, for now, I stick to

easy-to-digest foods and work with my dysfunctional upper GI.

You mention burning when you urinate. This is a common sign

of having Interstitial Cystitis. Supplements and medications tend to

cause more problems than foods in this regard. It’s also a common

symptom of having a bladder or kidney infection, however, so you may need to

have a sample cultured to ensure you aren’t dealing with an

infection.

In the meantime, I suggest you stop all supplements for a

few weeks and just work on foods, and see how your body does. Then pick

one supplement that seems the most critical to you and work with just that one

for a few weeks. It may take some experimenting for you to figure out if

it helps or causes problems, and if you need to vary the dose or try a

different brand.

Thanks Jodi! You're absolutely right...i need to calm down and go back to

basics....thanks for the advice. Last night i had a little grass fed beef bone

broth before dinner and just pureed some well cooked asparagus and broccoli with

water and a little bone broth mixed in and a little celtic sea salt. I left out

chicken to see if just digesting the pureed veggies is easier for me. I did

seem to feel a little better this morning and had a little more energy (i

suspect from the bone broth). I've stopped all supplements except the D-3 -

maybe i'll try removing that too for just a short while. I'm getting some

samples from Houston enzymes so if this doesn't help i'll try them in the

future.

Should i try the 4 hour cooked carrots again as listed on the Intro while

fighting candida or should i just stick to the broccoli & asparagus i know i can

tolerate? The carrots agreed with me in the beginning of the diet but the last

time i was eating them i wasn't cooking them 4 hours and i was using the

mini-carrots unpeeled so that may have been part of it. I'm going to try jello

again although i don't tolerate anything to mix it with - maybe i could make it

with water and a tiny bit of honey. I did that during my colonoscopy prep and

from what i could tell it was ok. Thanks again! :)

Although, i forgot to bring my vitamins with me today and i usually take them

after eating lunch - maybe i won't take them for a few days and see how that

goes before trying the enzymes(exept my D-3 - i think i need that or i start

feeling bad). I try to puree my foods when possible - maybe i just need to take

a whole weekend and eat only pureed foods and try to cut back on the animal

protein. If it weren't for you guys on this forum i don't know what I'd do!!

Thank you Kim! I've just recently stopped all supplements except the vit D-3 -

maybe i'll eliminate it for a short while to see how it goes. I'll eliminate

all others for at least 2 weeks. I need to make a Dr. appt soon so i'll ask her

about the burning urination - it seemed better this morning since i didn't eat

any animal protein last night for dinner - just pureed broccoli and asparagus

with water and grass fed beef bone broth. I'll test my urine soon to see if

it's acidic - the last time i did it was and i was assuming the burning is just

my system being too acidic from the bad bug die-off and from eating too much

animal protein sometimes? Thanks for mentioning this - i'll get it checked out.

I'll eat pureed well tolerated foods (which isn't a whole lot lol!) as much as i

can and i'll make more grass fed beef bone broth. I seem to tolerate that

better than the pasteured local chicken bone broth - maybe because they're fed

some grains (from what i've researched all chickens are fed a little bit of

grains - if true then maybe that's why). Thanks a bunch! :)

I often now make my gelatin with just a couple of tablespoons of fresh

lemon juice (or sometimes a bit of vitamin C powder), and a bit of

stevia. Honey would be even nicer if you tolerate it. It is quite nice,

really, a light sort of lemonade gelatin.

I'm going to try jello again although i don't tolerate anything to

mix it with - maybe i could make it with water and a tiny bit of honey.

Thanks and smdsmom! I'll probably just make it with water to make sure i'll

be able to tolerate it....how tasty! :)
