Guest guest
For us oldsters, Vitamin K2 addresses two very important concerns, hardening of the arteries and osteoporosis. I had hardening of the arteries and my blood pressure was 180+/90+. The use of 100 mcg/day of K2 lowered it to 120's/70's. The calcium in my arteries was literally transferred to my bones. You can Google " Rotterdam vitamin K study " which showed that the intake of higher amounts of K2 substantially reduced the death rate from heart attacks and reduced the death rate from all causes during the ten years of the study. You may also want to Google " K2 bone strength " and " K2 Weston Price " . This is just another of the tidbits that Big Pharma and their FDA allies don't want you to know about. Guest guest
Is this the same as regular vitamin K that coagulates your blood? I had two pulmonary embolisms in 2004 and was told to avoid vitamin K. I'm not a doctor or a nurse or anything medical but/and not sure if this is related but I'm a clumper so they have to take blood separately to count my platelets or I have to go in and have it done. I'm not sure anyone/everyone should be taking vitamin K without asking your doctor. I'm going to google it just fyi if anyone has more 'real' information. Vitamin K just scares me to death. Guest guest
Debbie, I embraced alternative medicine after a long series of mis-diagnoses and unnecessary procedures. After Crohn's was correctly diagnosed, misguided treatment and lack of concern nearly caused my death. I've come to fear allopathic medicine. I have a problem in that I fail sometimes to give enough information when I tell others about what I have learned. I appreciate your concern and your questions. Anyone on prescription blood-thinners should not take K2 without first clearing it with his/her doctor. My doctor hadn't heard of it. Yours probably hasn't either. Coumadin does the opposite of K2, in transferring calcium from bone to artery. Vitamin K1 is the blood clotting vitamin. If you buy vitamin K, you will probably get K1. One source of K2 is the very limited conversion from K that takes place in the body. The primary source of K2 on the market is from fermented soy. The Rotterdam research focused on certain cheeses as a source of K2. Weston price used butter oil. Please do not take K2 until you have satisfied yourself as to its safety and efficacy. I need to stop making recommendations, but I will suggest that those with concern about platelet aggregation and arterial plaque do some research on aged garlic (Kyolic) and omega 3. Even The American Heart Assn. published a report suggesting that people take garlic to improve artery health. Guest guest
Please don't stop making suggestions because of me. I was just curious and I thought there was a difference since it was 'K2'. It's very interesting. The CD meds never gave me a solution to the 'd' and I became/stayed anemic taking them. I'm open to all ideas. It was during the coumadin year that they said avoid vitamin K. I still don't knowingly eat a lot of foods or take anything with it. I'll read up on it though to see the difference in K1 and K2.
