Sandy,

I am so glad that your friend was insistant.

Not many people around here have heard of RAI.

Well, I did it, now I want to do whatever I can to make it work.

I upped my dose of vitamin C. I already take vitamins.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I am also trying to keep a positive

attitude here.

Do you know anything about how high the doses of the iodine can be? Just

wondering where 12 mci or mcu fits in.

Thanks again

Betty

Sandy, thanks so much for sharing your story.

It just makes me feel better knowing that you all understand what I am up

against.

Again, thanks so very much.

I have a call into my Endo right now, because of my eyes hurting.

My dr only mentioned RAI, and had all the tests done so he could talk me

into it. Unfortunately I don't think they really want to be bothered with

dealing with HyperT. I dunno if they're just taught in school that it's

the lesser of two evils, but mine never offered surgery.

I had a friend who was diagnosed with Thyroid Storm at her well woman exam

and she'd sent me some links cuz I was curious about what she was going

through since I had so many of the same symptoms, just hadn't had my

thyroid checked in years. If I remember correctly, both Endo's I've been

to both suggested RAI yet, they never once discussed the meds till I told

them I would not be willing to just nuke my thyroid if there was a chance

it could get better. I do know, that if my friend hadn't been so insistant

on not having it done, and hadn't shared some links with me on it, once my

diagnosis came back, I'd have let them talk me into it also. Sometimes I

have to wonder if they don't have a script they go by to give their speech.

Sigh

Sandy

Subject: RAI Question

I keep thinking about my Endo recommending RAI for me. I was so ignorant of
all these. I wish I had found you guys before I had the RAI done.
Does the fact that I have n 2 nodules on my right side make a difference as
to why he recommended the RAI? I am only asking for opinions. I know that

we
can't read him mind. Second choice he gave me was surgery. Now, I am

wishing
I had gone for the surgery.
How many of you have had the RAI?
I am putting a call in for him this morning about my eyes.
Thank you all for your help.
honestly, I was so disinterested when they even mentioned the RAI and it

was close to the Holidays, so I just ignored them. At first it was close to

Thanksgiving and I knew I was gonna spend it with my son, dil and

grandkids, so I put off decisions since it just didn't seem like the right

time. Then it was Christmas time, and not a good time either, even If I'd

agreed with the dr. I do remember them saying something similar to getting

the dose " right " so that I'd not have to have a second dose, and something

about that just made me real uneasy. I wish I had answers for you, but

I've had such a rough time with dr's on the thyroid go-round that I

sometimes just want to scream. I had such a brain fog, most days I had not

a clue what I'd read or heard about anything to do with thyroid. I am

having problems with my eyes though, as the eyelids swell, and I'd thought

it was because of allergies. I'm not so sure my eye problems are not from

the Graves now that I'm doing more reading. ( I definately have problems

with blurred vision a lot). My next step is to buy Elaine's book and

hopefully I can retain something from it. I've started taking vitamins for

the first time in my life on a regular basis, and instead of going back

with paxil for my pms, i've started taking a Midol PMS extra strength which

is helping me (I think) and I also added the CO Q10 and Vit C I'd read

about. I have to admit, something is making me feel better and labs won't

be done again till this month, near the end of May. I've got lots more

questions though for my DR since I found this group. I'm sure somebody

will know the answers to the questions you have and will post soon.

I do have to say this is the best group for more detailed answers on

questions that are presented. :-)

LOL at the granddaughters comment! Yep, i hated all the extra emails but I

can't help but feel that some of the things that got me to where I am

physically were there long before (emotionally) and it's sure nice to be

able to do something around the house that looks like it's been paid

attention to. I'm afraid without her I'd have sunk into the deepest pit

and I was well on my way. :-)

Hi Sandy,
I used to subscribe to the flylady. I gave it up a long time ago, but I

want
to tell you that one thing stuck with me. LOL
I have a very clean and shiny sink. One day my 6 yr. old Granddaughter said
to me " Grandma you like your sink don't you? "
It does work though doing it her way.
Thanks for posting this. I had forgotten about her.
