Guest guest
Hi All, I have been on no mail for 4 days because I have been having a hard time keeping up with the mail, I have been feeling really tired. I did have my Vestibular study this morning at the Clinic. I have been DX. with Benign Proximal Positional Vertigo. I have suffered with dizziness and loss of balance for over 12 years so it is a relief to have a Dx. and it is treatable. There is a specialist at the Cleveland Clinic that treats this disorder, I have to wait until my ENT refers me for treatment. The only difficult part is, after the treatment I cannot move my head for 3 days. I cannot lie down, bend over or turn or tilt my head. I have been going through posts at Yahoo and saw some posts on dizziness. You can check with your Doc about BPPV as a cause of your problem. Hugs, Sandy

Guest guest
-, The Tech who did the tests told me they call it " rocks in the head " . LOL It is caused by calcium deposits that lodge in the ear canals preventing the fluid in the ear from getting into the canals which causes the vertigo when you move your head. Guest guest
-Ann, They did not give me any exercises. I have to see Dr. Oas at the Clinic, he is the one who treats this. He does something called particle repositioning. You sit on the side of an examining table and the doctor holds your head and pulls you down on your side. Your head drops below your body. Then he quickly brings you back up. They did this yesterday as part of the test. It made me so dizzy and sick to my stomach I cried. For the treatment they repeat this several times, hoping to dislodge the calcium deposits. When you go home you cannot move your head for 3 days. Guest guest
Dear Sandy, years ago I went through a brain stem test where they strapped me in a chair and threw all sorts of colored lights and then it would go black, then colors. It was because of the vertigo. I had all these probes on me which was suppose to go to a machine to read the outcome. Then a dye which was injected. Test took about 2 hours also but didn't show anything. That's when I was diagnosed with panic disorder which now I find was not that at all....Thank you Sandy....just thought I was nuts all these years. Guest guest
-Sue, The Vestibular study takes about 2 hours. For the first part you are sitting in a small circular room. You are securely strapped in a chair and the door is shut. I wore a head piece with cameras attached to photograph eye movement. You follow a series of dots with your eyes only. You are spun around at regular intervals to produce dizziness. This lasted for an hour. The other tests take place in an examining room. This time I wore a camera on my right eye only. I had a water test done, they flush your ears with warm and then cold water, this brings on vertigo. It was interesting that my right ear showed very little sensitivity to the temperature change. This is the ear my RP. affects the most. The most difficult test involved sitting on the edge of the table while the tech held my head, then laid me down on my right side so my head was lower than the table. Then he quickly brought me back up. I was severely dizzy and nauseated, made me cry. This test was ordered by an ENT., do you go to one?
