Guest guest
Hi, I just started occupational therapy--yesterday--and was given some putty to work with as well as braces for each hand. When they measured my hand strength I was at 20 lbs of pressure, but should be at 69 lbs. Today, though, my hands are so weak I can hardly hold anything. It is hard to type and I just don't want to do anything. It isn't just my hands, but my whole body just feels weak...is this the RP--does it affect hands? I have had problems with my hands for about 4 years now. They swell, are in pain, and I can't use them. I told my therapist I also had fibromyalgia and she said that any exercises might be contraindicated for my condition...I wasn't sure if fibromyalgia affected hands...of course she didn't have that information and gave me the putty anyway. They tested me for arthritis and all the tests were negative. Also, I have heard prednisone affects the muscles, making you feel weak, or making your muscles weak. Has anyone else experienced this while on prednisone? what do you do for this? I am glad for a keyboard because if I had to write letters I don't think I would be able to do it!! I hope everyone is doing well...talk to you later. Margaret

When they tested me one hand was 20 and the other was 25. That was about 5 years ago, before RP.... Didn't know then and still don't know now... I do have fibro too, so maybe it is... I know that pred will weaken muscles... Hobb had a good article about muscle weakness and pred... She was told not to lift over 5 pounds if she was on more than 20mg of pred. I will look and see if I can find it.. At least we have each other. LOL hugs
